Surah Fatir Ayat 19-20-21 & 22 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (06 March 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[35].Surah Fatir [The Originator of Creation]

Ayat 19. Not alike are the blind (disbelievers in Islamic Monotheism) and the seeing (believers in Islamic Monotheism).

Ayat 20. Nor are (alike) the darkness (disbelief) and the light (Belief in Islamic Monotheism).

Ayat 21. Nor are (alike) the shade and the sun’s heat.

Ayat 22. Nor are (alike) the living (believers) and the dead (disbelievers). Verily, Allah makes whom He will hear, but You (O Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH), cannot make hear those who are in graves.

Tafseer of Surah Fatir Ayat 19, 20, 21 and 22. The blind and the seeing are not alike; Now we are offered some contrasts between those who obey Allah’s Law and are thus citizens of Allah’s Kingdom and those who are rebels against Allah’s Kingdom and are thus outdraws. How can they be considered alike? The godly are like those who see, as contrasted with those who are blind; and their motives and actions are like the purest and highest Light, contrasted with the depths of darkness; or, to take another metaphor, their lives are like the genial and warmth giving heat of the sun, which benefits all who come within its influence, contrasted with the chilly shadows of gloom in which no vegetation flourishes. Ayat 20. Nor are the depths of Darkness and the Light; Ayat 21. Nor are the (chilly) shade and the (genial) heat of the sun: Ayat 22. Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead. Allah can make any that He wills to hear; but thou canst not make those to hear who are (buried) in graves. The final contrast between the Living and the Dead; those whose future has in it the promise of growth and fulfillment, and those who are inert and on the road to perish. With Allah everything is possible: He can give Life to the Dead. But the human Teacher should not expect that people who are (spiritually) dead and buried will by any chance hear his call.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “My parable and that of yours is like a man who kindled a fire. When it was illuminated all around him, the moths and grasshoppers began to fall therein. He tried to push them away, but they overcame him and jumped into it. I am catching hold of your waist ties (to save you) from fire, but you slip away from my hands”.

[Muslim Book 030, Chapter 06, Hadith # 5672].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Fatir Ayat 22. Nor are (alike) the living (believers) and the dead (disbelievers). Verily, Allah makes whom He will hear, but You (O Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH), cannot make hear those who are in graves.” This Hadith mentions the extreme kindness which the Prophet ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) had for the welfare of his followers. It also mentions the misfortune of those who would become the fuel of Hell for not accepting Islam in spite of the utmost affection and ardor of the Prophet (PBUH) to bring them in the fold of Islam. People who fail to accept Islam would fall in the Hell-fire in the same way moths fall in the fire.
