Surah An Nahl – Ayah 94

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 94_*

*_”And do not take oaths as a (means of) deception between you, lest a foot slips after it was firmly planted, and you would taste the evil (consequences) for having hindered (people) from the way of Allah and for you is a great punishment”.(94)_*

(In S16:A92, the motive for false and fraudulent covenants (Oaths) was pointed out). _Now in this ayah we are warned about the consequences of such oaths taken to deceive people‼️._

_That is, “Someone, who might have been convinced of Islam, seeing your dishonest conduct should become disgusted and hold back from joining the Believers”. For he might argue like this: “As these Muslims are not much different from the disbelievers in their morals and dealings, there is no reason why I should join them”._

*_Act for the Day is:_* to understand that the breaking of pledges unavoidably leads to a gradual disappearance of all mutual trust and, thus, to the decomposition of the social fabric.”‼️

_Let’s be aware of these two basic consequences of our oaths (taken) to deceive and abstain from taking such oaths._

_1. (To others); if they had not been deceived, they might have walked firmly on the path, but now they lose faith and perhaps commit like frauds for which we will be responsible._

_2. (To ourselves); By then, We have not only gone wrong ourselves, but have set others on the wrong path, and deserve a *double penalty*._

_Perhaps for such people, the *’great punishment’ refer to sufferings in this world, and ‘wrath’ to the Hereafter.*_

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to remain truthful and firm in our dealings. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

JazaK Allâhu Khair!
