A Brief introduction to Chapter 14 – Surah Ibrahim

*_A Brief Introduction To 14th Surah Ibrahim_*

*The Surah takes its name from Ayah 35 in which mention has been made of Prophet Ibrahim AS.* _But it does not mean that it contains the life story of Prophet Ibrahim AS. The name is merely a symbolic as the names of many other surahs, i.e., the Surah in which Ibrahim’s mention has been made._

*_Period of Revelation:_* It appears from the tone of the Surah that it belongs to that group of the Surahs which were revealed during the last stage of the *Makkan period*.

*_Theme of the Surah:_* The Messenger ﷺwas constantly reminded to continue conveying the message even if the people are taunting and disbelieving. He ﷺ was even given the examples of previous prophets for motivation. Not just that, but he ﷺ was told to be like them: patient when times are tough, grateful when victory comes. The kuffar are also hard at work just as they have been throughout history. *The persecution of the Muslims was at its worst at the time of the revelation of this Surah, and the people of Makkah were bent on expelling the Believers from there like the disbelievers of the former Prophets.* _This Surah is an admonition and a warning to the disbelievers who were rejecting the Message of the Noble Prophet SAWS and devising cunning schemes to defeat his Mission._ *They are rejecting the leader sent to them in favor of the leaders of their disbelief and these leaders will only lead them to the ruin in this world and the next which is described in the surah.* In contrast, the believers who have been struggling alongside the Messenger ﷺ will receive their rewards in Paradise. Allah Azzawajal then takes the disbelievers back to what they should have learned from history. *They took the blessings Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la had given them in this land of Makkah and turned it into a center of shirk.* Then, this was the supplication Prophet Ibrahim(AS) made for these people.
*_And when Ibrahim Prayed, “O my Lord make this land safe and prevent me and my children from worshipping idols.”(Ayah 35)_*
Look at what your father asked for you to be and what you have become.❗ The only thing they respected was ancestry so what happened to that in this situation. Where is their loyalty here?

*One of the most famous Ayah of surah Ibrahim is 7th Ayah of this surah* which states that _if you give thanks to Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la for the blessings He has given you, HE SWT will give you more blessings. However, if you are ungrateful, you will be punished and Allah Azzawajal will deprive you of HIS blessings._ In short, surah Ibrahim is a very instructive surah that teaches us many things, just like all other surahs of the Quran. By reciting surah Ibrahim and acting upon its teachings, we can strengthen our Imaan and our concepts of Tawheed.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder, reflect, make it easier to understand and get benefitted from the Surah Ibrahim. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
