.Surah Yusuf [Joseph]
Ayat 26. He [Yusuf (Joseph)] said: “It was she that sought to seduce me,” – and a witness of her household bore witness (saying): “If it be that his shirt is torn from the front, then her tale is true and he is a liar!
Ayat 27. “But if it be that his shirt is torn from the back, then she has told a lie and he is speaking the truth!”
Ayat 28. So when he (her husband) saw his [(Yusuf’s (Joseph)] shirt torn at the back; (her husband) said: “Surely, it is a plot of you women! Certainly mighty is your plot!
Tafseer of Surah Yusuf (PBUH) Ayat 26, 27 & 28. He said: “It was she that sought to seduce me – from my (true) self.” And one of her household saw (this) and bore witness, (thus):- “If it be that his shirt is rent from the front, then is her tale true, and he is a liar! Joseph bore himself with dignity. He was too great and noble to indulge in angry recrimination. But he had to tell the truth. And he did it with quiet simplicity, without argument or bitterness-and not caring whether he was believed or not. ‘The love game was hers, not his, and it went too far in seeking to assault his person.’ In the nature of things there was no eyewitness to what had happened between them. But as there was a scene and the whole household collected, wisdom came through one who was not immediately concerned. They say it was a child. If so, it illustrates the truth that the most obvious things are not noticed by people who are excited, but are plain to simple people who remain calm. Wisdom comes often through babes and suckling’s. 27. “But if it be that his shirt is torn from the back, then is she the liar, and he is telling the truth!” If Joseph’s shirt was torn at the back, he must obviously have been retreating, and the wife of the ‘Aziz must have been tugging from behind. No one could doubt who was the guilty party. Everybody saw it, and the ‘Aziz was convinced. 28. So when he saw his shirt,- that it was torn at the back,- (her husband) said: “Behold! It is a snare of you women! truly, mighty is your snare! When the real fact became clear to everyone, the ‘Aziz as head of the household had to decide what to do. His own position was difficult, and it was made ridiculous. He was a high officer of state, say Grand Chamberlain. His dignity and rank were advanced by the so-called marriage with a high-born Princess. Was he going to proclaim to the world that his wife was running after a slave? He was probably fond of her, and he saw the innocence, loyalty, and sterling merit of Joseph. He must treat the whole affair as a woman’s prank-the madness of sex-love, and the tricks and snares connected with sex-love. He must take no further action but to rate his life and do justice.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, “The life of the world is sweet and green. Allah makes you generations succeeding one another so that He may try you in respect of your actions. So beware of the beguilements of the world and those of women. The first trial of Banu Israel was through women”.
[Muslim Chapter 01, Hadith # 6606].
Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Yusuf Ayat 28. Surely, it is a plot of you women! Certainly mighty is your plot! Wealth and property of this world are favourites of everyone like the fresh fruit which is sweet, delicious and attractive for all. Everyone likes them and is attracted towards them. The most delicious fruit of this world is woman but at the same time it is the most baneful. One who inclines towards wealth and women and ignores the Islamic legal injunctions, has at stake both his Deen and Faith; and one who benefits from them keeping oneself within the bounds of Islam, would be safe from their ruinous effects.
