Daily Qur’an & Hadith 14 Feb 2021 (01 Rajab 1442)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[12].Surah Yusuf [Joseph]

Ayat 87“O my sons! Go you and enquire about Yusuf (Joseph){PBUH} and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.”

Ayat 88Then, when they entered unto him [Yusuf (Joseph)]{PBUH}, they said: “O ruler of the land! A hard time has hit us and our family, and we have brought but poor capital, so pay us full measure and be charitable to us. Truly, Allah does reward the charitable.”

Tafseer of Surah Yusuf Ayat 87 & 88. “O my sons! go ye and enquire about Joseph and his brother, and never give up hope of Allah’s Soothing Mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah’s Soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith.” The word is rawh, not ruh, as some translators have mistakenly construed it. Rawh includes the idea of a Mercy that stills or calms our distracted state, and is particularly appropriate here in the mouth of Jacob. Jacob ignores and forgives the sting and malice in the speech of his sons, and like a true Prophet of Allah, still wishes them well, gives them sound advice, and sends them on an errand which is to open their eyes to the wonderful ways of Providence as much as it will bring consolation to his own distressed soul. He asks them to go again in search of Joseph and Benjamin. Perhaps by now he had an idea that they might be together in Egypt . In any case their stock of grain is again low, and they must seek its replenishment in Egypt .

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) saying, “When Allah created the creatures, He wrote in the Book, which is with Him over His Throne: `Verily, My Mercy prevailed over My Wrath”

Another narration is: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “(Allah wrote) `My Mercy dominated My Wrath”.

Still another narration is: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “(Allah wrote) `My Mercy surpasses My Wrath”.

[Muslim Book 37, Chapter 04, Hadith # 6626/6627/6628].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Yusuf Ayat 87. “never give up hope of Allah’s Mercy. Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy,” Imam Al-Khattabi states that here the word “Kitab” (translated here as `Book’) means the decision of Almighty Allah which He has already made, an instance of which is the following Verse of the Noble Qur’an: “Allah has decreed: `Verily, it is I and My Messengers who shall be the victorious”. (58:21). In this Ayah the Arabic word “Kataba” is used in the sense of “Qada’ (decided);” or the word “Kataba” signifies “Lauh Mahfooz” on which He has recorded everything. Almighty Allah is on the ‘Arsh’ (the Throne of Allah) and this Book is with Him. (Fath Al-Bari, Kitab At-Tauhid, Bab: Wa kana Arshuhu `alal-Ma’.)
