Surah Al Hijr – 78 & 79

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 78 & 79_*

*_And the dwellers of the Wood were also wrongdoers.(78)_*

*_So We exacted retribution upon them. They are both on a well- known highway.(79)_*

*Aika”* means *thick trees.* Allah Azzawajal described them as the dwellers of the Wood. The region near Madiyan was full of trees with thick foliage, which was inhabited by the nation of Shuaib(AS). Therefore, that nation was called the ‘People of Aika and they were one of the two nations to whom Shuaib (AS) was sent, the other being Madyan.

_These people owned thick orchards and their economy largely depended on fruit production. They never showed gratitude to the blessings of Allah Azzawajal *When Allah (SWT) decided on their destruction, HE SWT sent upon them a scorching heat lasting for a week. Thereafter HE SWT sent a piece of cloud. They gathered under its shade. A fire came down from the cloud and they were all burned.* Hence the Qur’anic reference to the punishment elsewhere as (26: 189), “punishment of the day of Shade” (Ibn Jarir).

*_Act of the Day is:_* to learn from the end of those who showed arrogance to the advise of the prophets and persisted in disobedience.‼️ _It is a rule that Allah Azzawajal has established in human life that when truth and falsehood have adopted their respective stands and become clearly distinct, confronting each other on the basis of principle, then Allah Azzawajal’s law will come into operation. This was what took place with Shu`aib(AS) and his people._

— Both the lands of the people of Lut(AS) and of the dwellers of the Wood are on a well-known highway that is the place between Arab and Syria and it is on a clear highway on which travellers pass by them all the time, and their ruins can be seen; thus people of understanding learn a lesson from that. Life continues all around these towns which once flourished, but it now lies in ruin.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to take lessons from the Qur’an and save our Aakhirah. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

JazaK Allâhu khair!
