Surah Al Isra – Ayah 26

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 26_*

*_Give kinsfolk their due, and those in need, and wayfarers- but do not squander your wealth wastefully.(26)_*

اور رشتہ داروں اور محتاجوں اور مسافروں کو ان کا حق ادا کرو۔ اور فضول خرچی سے مال نہ اُڑاؤ.(26)
The Ayah mentions the command of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la to treat one’s relatives well and to maintain the ties of kinship.‼️ The Ayah makes it clear that the near of kin, the needy and stranded travellers have *a right against us* which may only be discharged by financial assistance. *This does not come as a favour which one person does to another; it is rather a duty imposed by Allah Azzawajal and associated with worshipping HIM Alone.* _When we fulfil this duty we are only discharging our responsibility, and cultivating a close relationship between ourselves and those to whom we give. The giver has no favour against the recipient, because he is only fulfilling a duty towards Allah Azzawajal._ The rights that must be fulfilled are: *strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and affection*, visiting their homes and being polite, and helping to alleviate the suffering they experience.

According to Hadith: _“Whoever would like to see his provision expanded and his life extended, let him maintain his ties of kinship.” (Muslim 4:1982)_

*Apart from family members, we must give rights to the poor and to those who are traveling.* For travelers, the condition is that they are those who have run out of supplies while traveling. Sometimes they are not poor, but they have run out of supplies while traveling and they have no way to get back to their homes which may be far from them.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the word *Tabzeer’تَبْذِیْرًا (Wasteful expenditure)* means unnecessary spending of wealth, and unnecessary expenditure makes a person careless of paying the dues of others.‼️ *Allah SWT forbids Muslims from being wasteful, namely spending wealth without careful calculation so that it becomes wasteful.* _Those, who get wealth in abundance, think it to be their own property, and then they spend it in unlawful acts and in fulfilling their own desires recklessly, though the wealth is a trust from Allah Azzawajal, which he is responsible to spend in lawful acts, besides others also have some rights in that wealth, and paying those dues is his responsibility. On account of lack of correct Islamic perspective about the wealth and property and for want of a sense of responsibility in this connection, a person spends his wealth senselessly and irresponsibly._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to fulfil the rights of HIS creations and save us from wasteful expenditures and boasting. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
