Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 08 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (17 July 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[39].Surah Al-Zumar [The Groups]

Ayat 8. And when some hurt touches (calamity befalls on) man, he cries to his Lord (Allah Alone), turning to Him in repentance, but when He bestows a favour upon him from Himself, he forgets that for which he cried for before, and he sets up rivals to Allah, in order to mislead others from His Path. Say: “Take pleasure in your disbelief for a while: surely, you are (one) of the dwellers of the Fire!”

Tafseer of Surah Al Zumar Ayat 8. When some trouble touched man, he cried unto his Lord, turning to Him in repentance: but when He bestowed a favour upon him as from Himself, (man) doth forget what he cried and prayed for before, and he doth set up rivals unto Allah, thus misleading others from Allah’s Path. Say, “Enjoy thy Blasphemy for a little while: verily thou art (one) of the Companions of the Fire!” Cf. 10:12. Trouble and adversity often bring a man to his bearings. But if he is not firm and constant, he forgets the lessons which life is meant to teach him. As soon as he gets a little prosperity, he forgets that it is from Allah, and attributes it to something which may only be a secondary cause, e.g., his own efforts or the Powers of Nature, or something which he has invented and made into a god, e.g., idols or fate. Allah is the Ultimate Cause of all things. To set up rivals to Him in this way is not only wrong and degrading to the false worshipper himself, but misleads countless ignorant people, who may not be able to make allowances for the figures of speech or the symbolism by which subtler minds can explain away falsehoods. Those who practice and those who teach evil and blasphemy may seem to flourish in this world. But their satisfaction will be of very short duration. They are treading all the while on the Path that leads to the Fire of Perdition.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  “May he be miserable, the worshipper of the dinar and dirham, and the worshipper of the striped silk cloak. If he is given anything, he is satisfied; but if not, he is unsatisfied”.

[Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 52, Hadith # 137]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 8. And when some hurt touches (calamity befalls on) man, he cries to his Lord (Allah Alone)” This Hadith exposed person who prefers worldly things over life hereafter. “A slave of dinar and dirham and silk cloaks (clothes)” here means a person who prefers these things to the Divine injunctions and commands and strives day and night to amass worldly goods. Instead of worshipping Allah, he worships such things and is thus guilty of worship of others besides Allah, a condition which causes his ruin.
