Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 39 & 40 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (07 Aug 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[39].Surah Al-Zumar [The Groups]

Ayat 39. Say: (O Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) “O My people! Work according to your way, I am working (according to my way). Then you will come to know,

Ayat 40. “To whom comes a disgracing torment, and on whom descends an everlasting torment.”

Tafseer of Surah Al Zumar Ayat 39 and 40. Say: “O my People! Do whatever ye can: I will do (my part) but soon will ye know Cf. 11:121. Ayat 40. “Who it is to whom comes a Penalty of ignominy, and on whom descends a Penalty that abides.” Cf. 11:93. The two clauses, about those who suffer a Penalty of ignominy and those on whom descends a lasting Penalty, apparently refer to the same person in two different aspects: (1) they suffer shame, and (2) their punishment endures.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) used to supplicate (in these words): “Allahumma inni audhu bika min sharri ma `amiltu, wa min sharri ma lam a`mal (O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of that which I have done and the evil of that which I have not done).”

[Muslim Book 35, Chapter 17, Hadith # 6558]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 39. “I am working (according to my way). Then you will come to know” This prayer is also very comprehensive. Sometimes a person does a virtuous deed but it is tainted with slight hypocrisy or pride. It is an element which destroys even the most virtuous deeds. It is this mischief against which Allah’s Protection has been sought through this prayer.
