[39].Surah Al-Zumar [The Groups]
Ayat 53. Say: “O ‘Ibadi (My servants) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Tafseer of Surah Al Zumar Ayat 53. Say: “O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah. For Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Forgives all sins: i.e., on sincere repentance and amendment of conduct.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “During the Miraj (the Night of Ascension), I saw a group of people who were scratching their chests and faces with their copper nails. I asked, `Who are these people, O Jibril?’ Jibril replied: `These are the people who ate flesh of others (by backbiting) and trampled people’s honor.”
[Abu Dawud Hadith # 4878]
Lesson : These are the people who ate the flesh of others” is a metaphor for backbiting. “To trample people’s honor” is akin to harming their goodwill and honor. The punishment for these things mentioned in Hadith makes their seriousness obvious.
