Surah An Nahl – Ayah 43

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 43_*

*_And We did not send (messengers) before you(O Muhammad) other than men whom We inspired with revelation. So, ask( you, O polytheists) the people (having the knowledge) of the Message, if you do not know.(43)_*

This Ayah gives a reply to the defiant Quraysh disbelievers who were objecting to the apostleship of Prophetﷺ.‼️ *They could not believe that Muhammadﷺ was a Prophet of Allahﷻ because he was a human being like them.* _Some of them said, Allah is too great to send a human being as a Messenger.’ Then Allahﷻ revealed this Ayah. These pagan Arabs were expecting the Messenger from Allahﷻ to be some angel or extraordinary creature. Allahﷻ states that HE did not send any messengers before the Prophet Muhammadﷺ except humans to whom HE gave revelation. Therefore, those who are worthy to be sent to carry out this task are messengers from their kind and speaking their language._ Hence Allah ﷻ asks them to enquire with *Ahl Adh-Dhikr (the people of knowledge)* which refers to the scholars of the Jews and Christians whether in their books there is information that Allahﷻ has ever sent angels to them as Messengers as these Mushrikin were to be satisfied only by the statement of non-Muslims because they themselves were not satisfied with what the Prophetﷺ was telling them. So, how could they accept the statement of other knowledgeable believers?

*_Act of the Day is_* to understand
1. The significance of seeking knowledge and understanding.
2. The importance of inquiry: Ask those with knowledge if you’re unsure.
3. The value of consulting with scholars and experts.
4. The need for humility and recognition of one’s limitations.
The Noble Prophet ﷺ said in this regard,

فَإِنَّمَا شِفَاءُ الْعِيِّ السُّؤَالُ
*_Indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking (because ignorance is like a disease)_*
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan Ibn Majah & Musnad Ahmad)

-The word *Ahl Adh-Dhikr (the people of knowledge)* are the people who have knowledge of the al-dhikr, and the intended meaning of al-dhikr is the Qur’an and Sunnah according to the understanding of the righteous predecessors. Those counted among the “People of Knowledge” are distinguished by knowledge of the Qur’an and hadeeth and following what the transmitted statements of the righteous indicate. _They have the *responsibility* of explaining the correct knowledge and clarifying to common people, while the task of the common people is to refer beck to the people of knowledge whatever is difficult for them to understand._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to to understand and gain proper knowledge of Deen and save us from getting mislead and going astray. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

JazaK Allâhu khair!
