*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 91_*
_*”And fulfil the Covenant of Allah when you have taken it, and do not break oaths after you have made Allah a surety over you. Indeed, Allah knows what you do”.(91)*_
_Here the general meaning of Oaths may be viewed in two aspects;_ The word: *(Ahd)* is inclusive of all transactions, pacts and pledges the responsibility of which has been assumed verbally, whether one does or does not swear by it, and whether it relates to doing something or not doing it
_1) Every oath taken, or covenant made, is a Covenant before Allah, and should be faithfully observed._ (Read S5:A1)
_2) In particular every believer makes, by the profession of his faith, a covenant with Allah, and he confirms that covenant every time he repeats that profession. He should therefore faithfully observe the duties taught to him by Islam._
*Act for the Day is:* _To understand that after having given a pledge or made a contract with someone, breaking it is a major sin.‼ But, in the event it is broken, there is no Kaffrah (expiation) fixed for this purpose. *Instead, it brings the punishment of the Hereafter on the offender The covenant which binds us in the Spiritual world makes us strong. It also gives us a sense of security against much evil in this world._
_*If an Oath is taken it must be fulfilled at any cost, as we know that Allah is our witness to every oath and He stands as surety between the two.*
—To understand that *The fulfilment of promises and pledges ensures that trust is maintained in human transactions*❗. Without such trust human society, and humanity generally, cannot have a solid foundation.
*_May Allah SWT help us to understand this important aspect of Oath and help us fulfil them when taken. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
JazaK Allâhu Khair!
