English Translation of Al-Quran
[30].Surah Ar-Rum [The Romans]
Ayat 55. And on the Day that the Hour will be established, the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will swear that they stayed not but an hour, thus were they ever deluded [away from the truth (i.e., they used to tell lies and take false oaths, and turn away from the truth) in this life of the world)]
Tafseer of Surah Al Rum (The Romans) Ayat 55. On the Day that the Hour (of Reckoning) will be established, the transgressors will swear that they tarried not but an hour: thus were they used to being deluded! Whatever the seeming inequalities may be now-when the good appear to be weak and the strong seem to oppress-will be removed when the balance will be finally redressed. That will happen in good time-indeed so quickly that the Transgressors will be taken by surprise. They were deluded by the fact that what they took to be their triumph or their freedom to do what they liked was only a reprieve, a “Term Appointed”, in which they could repent and amend and get Allah’s Mercy. Failing this, they will then be up against the Penalties which they thought they had evaded or defied.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Allah excuses and grants forgiveness to a person until he attains the age of sixty years”
[Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 36, Hadith # 2614]
Lesson : This Hadith makes it evident that Allah does not punish any individual or nation without warning them first. The second point is that a person who is given sixty years of life and yet he neglects the obligations of Faith, will have no excuse. After the age of sixty years, one must not neglect his religious obligations because then one is closer to death. Although one may die even at a young age, in youth one is still hopeful of life. After crossing the age of sixty, to hope for a longer age, while leading a sinful life and defying Divine injunctions constitute a disastrous conduct. May Allah save us from doing so.
