English Translation of Al-Quran
[31].Surah Luqman [Luqman]
Ayat 6. And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur’an) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).
Tafseer of Surah Luqman Ayat 6. But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty. Life is taken seriously by men who realize the issues that hang upon it. But there are men of a frivolous turn of mind who prefer idle tales to true Realities and they are justly rebuked here. In the time of the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) there was a pagan Nadir Ibn al Harith who preferred Persian romance to the Message of Allah, and turned away ignorant men from the preaching of Allah’s Word.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said, “He who takes an oath and involuntarily says: `By Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza’ should at once affirm: `La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah)’, and he who says to his companion: `Come let’s gamble’ should make expiation by giving something in charity.”
[Al-Bukhari Hadith # 4860 and Muslim Hadith # 1647].
Lesson: Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza were the idols of the polytheists of Arabia. To take oath or swear by them or by anything else besides Allah is an act of disbelief which takes one out of the fold of religion.
