Surah Saba Ayat 002 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (05 Jan 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[34].Surah Saba [Sheba]

Ayat 2. Allah knows that which goes into the earth (rain water, treasure) and that which comes forth from it, and that which descends from heaven and that which ascends to it. And He is the Most Merciful, the Oft Forgiving.

Tafseer of Surah Saba’ (Sheba) Ayat 2. He knows all that goes into the earth, and all that comes out thereof; all that comes down from the sky and all that ascends thereto and He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving. An ignorant man may think that water absorbed in the soil or seed sown beneath the sod is lost, but it replenishes numerous rills and streams, and feeds and sustains numerous roots and forms of life, and throws up all kinds of vegetable life. So with things that come out of the earth, who can count the myriad forms of herbs and trees that grow and perish, and yet sustain a continuous life for ages and ages? Yet these are symbolic of other things or entities beyond time or space, and beyond physical form. We see the birth and death of the animal part of man: when he is buried beneath the soil, the ignorant man thinks there is an end to him. But what countless stages still lie before him for his inner and spiritual life? And so with the Platonic Forms of Things: Goodness, Virtue, Mercy, and the various functions of the soul. They are never lost, but go up to Allah. The vapors that rise from the earth and ascend to the sky descend again as rain and snow and as symbols of Allah’s Mercy. So are the prayers of the devout and the call of those in agony for help and light, answered by the descent of mercy and guidance, help and light from the Throne of Majesty. The imagery indicated in the last note can be worked out to moral and spiritual forces, and they all center in Allah. Do not forget that, just as there is the element of Mercy, so there is an element of Justice and Punishment—in the physical forces as well as in the moral and spiritual forces, all centering in Allah.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Ash-Shikhkhir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) while he was reciting (Surah At-Takathur 102): “The mutual rivalry (for hoarding worldly things) preoccupy you. Until you visit the graves (i.e., till you die). (102:1-8) (After reciting) he (PBUH) said, “Son of Adam says: `My wealth, my wealth.’ Do you own of your wealth other than what you eat and consume, and what you wear and wear out, or what you give in Sadaqah (charity) (to those who deserve it), and that what you will have in stock for yourself.”

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 42, Hadith # 7061].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Saba Ayat 2. Allah knows that which goes into the earth (rain water, treasure) and that which comes forth from it, This Hadith enjoins if a person given wealth, he or she should spend it in way liked by Allah because it is this Sadaqah which will be a valuable treasure in the Afterlife. Whatever else he or she consumes in this world, will finish or rot in this world and will be of no avail in Hereafter.
