Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 09 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (18 July 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[39].Surah Al-Zumar [The Groups]

Ayat 9. Is one who is obedient to Allah, prostrating himself or standing (in prayer) during the hours of the night, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord (like one who disbelieves)? Say: “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses).

Tafseer of Surah Al Zumar Ayat 9. Is one who worships devoutly during the hour of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord – (like one who does not)? Say: “Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition. Cf. 3:113-117. It is a great thing when a man gets into the attitude of humble devotion to Allah. To him the Hereafter is a real thing, and he prepares for it with good works. He does not build his hopes on the vanities of this world, but on Allah’s Grace and Mercy. Such a man is “endued with understanding” and receives Allah’s Message with fervor and alacrity. He is not to be compared with the cynic or the unbeliever, who knows nothing of the real value of the inner life. Cf. 13:19.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires”.

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2459]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Zumar Ayat 9. “Are those who know equal to those who know not?” It is only men of understanding who will remember” This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one’s self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions.
