English Translation of Al-Quran
[37].Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks)
Ayat 167. And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say;
Ayat 168. “If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) as a Messenger of Allah).
Ayat 169. “We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!”
Ayat 170. But (now that the Qur’an has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Qur’an and in Prophet Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH), and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know!
Tafseer of Surah As-Saffat (Those Ranged in Ranks) Ayat 167 to 170. And there were those who said, there were the sceptics or Unbelievers—primarily the Pagan Arabs, but in a more extended sense, all who doubt Allah’s providence or revelation. Ayat 168. “If only we had before us a Message from those of old, Ayat 169. “We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!” Such men take refuge in ancestral tradition. If our forefathers had had an inkling of Revelation or miracles, or had worshipped as we are now taught to worship, we should gladly have accepted. Or if they had had any of the miracles which other nations of old are said to have received, we could then have accepted.’ But now stronger and more convincing proofs have come to them in the Qur’an in their own tongue, and they doubt and reject it. Ayat 170. But (now that the Quran has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! Allah’s Truth will manifest itself against all odds, and the whole world will see.
English Translation of Hadith
Hazrat Ibn Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said to me: “Recite the Qur’an to me”. I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Shall I recite the Qur’an to you, when it has been revealed to you?” He ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) replied, “I love to hear it recited by others”. So I recited to him a portion from Surat An-Nisa’. When I reached the Ayah: “How (will it be) then, when We bring from each nation a witness and We bring you (O Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) as a witness against these people?”. (4:41) He ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Enough for now”. When I looked at him, I saw his eyes were shedding tears.

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah As-Saffat Ayat 170. “All that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! ” This Hadith tells us that besides the recitation of the Noble Qur’an, a Muslim should also listen to it from others so that he can contemplate further on it. It also makes one weep when one listens to the Noble Qur’an.
