Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 39 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (01 May 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 39. And he and his hosts were arrogant in the land, without rights, and they thought that they would never return to Us.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 39. And he was arrogant and insolent in the land, beyond reason, – He and his hosts: they thought that they would not have to return to Us! They did not believe in the Hereafter. They did not understand that every deed must have its inevitable consequence, good, or evil, unless the Grace of Allah intervenes to save us from ourselves!

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Harithah bin Wahab’ (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) saying, “Shall I not inform you about the people of Jannah? It is every person who is modest and humble (before Allah), a person who is considered weak and is looked down upon but if he adjures Allah, Allah will certainly give him what he desires. Now shall I not inform you about the inmates of Hell? It is every violent, impertinent, and proud man”.

[Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 60, Hadith # 440].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 39. “he and his hosts were arrogant in the land” This Hadith tells us about distinction of such weak, poor, and secluded persons who do not have any important position in society but are so eminent in the realm of piety that, out of their utmost trust in Allah, if they take an oath for something, Almighty Allah fulfills their oath. Thus, this Hadith highlights the importance of modesty and condemns pride, miserliness and lust for name and fame.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 38 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (30 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 38. Fir’aun (Pharaoh) said: “O chiefs! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me, so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake (bricks out of) clay, and set up for me a Sarhan (a lofty tower, or palace, etc.) in order that I may look at (or look for) the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses); and verily, I think that he [Musa (Moses)] is one of the liars.”

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 38. Pharaoh said: “O Chiefs! No god do I know for you but myself: therefore, O Haman! Light me a (kiln to bake bricks) out of clay, and build me a lofty palace, that I may mount up to the God of Moses: but as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!” Pharaoh claimed, himself, to be God-not only one god among many, but the only god: “I am your Lord Most High”: 79:24. At any rate he did not see why his people should worship anyone but him. I understand his speech to his minister Hainan to be sarcastic. But some Commentators have taken it very seriously and imagined that he actually thought of reaching the heavens by building lofty towers (Cf. 40:36).

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah [SAWW](PBUH) said,  “Almighty Allah says, `I am the One who is most free from want of partners. He who does a thing for the sake of someone else beside Me, I discard him and his polytheism”.

[Muslim Book 042, Chapter 06, Hadith # 7114].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 38. “I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me” “He who does a thing for the sake of someone else beside Me” here means to do something virtuous for mere show for worldly benefit, or to gain the reputation of being pious. “I discard him and his polytheism” means that “I nullify his good deeds and deprive him of the reward.” In this Hadith any virtue done for the sake of mere show has been likened to Shirk to make its viciousness and harm obvious. However, this is Ash-Shirk Al-Asghar, and those who commit it will not be forbidden access to Jannah. They will, after the punishment in Hell, ultimately enter Jannah. Whereas those who are guilty of Ash-Shirk Al-Akbar and sheer Shirk will abide in Hell forever.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 37 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (29 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 37. Musa AS (Moses) said: “My Lord knows best him who came with guidance from Him, and whose will be the happy end in the Hereafter. Verily, the Zalimun (wrong-doers, polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) will not be successful.”

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 37. Moses said: “My Lord knows best who it is that comes with guidance from Him and whose end will be best in the Hereafter: certain it is that the wrongdoers will not prosper.” The only argument in such a case is an appeal to Allah and to the ultimate Future. Both of these appeals require Faith. But even if you do not rely on anything so high, you can see that Falsehood or evils crystallized in ancestral customs are not going to do anyone any good.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: One of the Companions said, “O Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH). There are many injunctions of Islam for me. So tell me something to which I may hold fast.” He said, “Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah.”

[At-Tirmidhi, Hadith # 3383]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 37. “”My Lord knows best him who came with guidance from Him” Shara’i` is the plural of Shariah Shariah is in the sense of Mashru`ah, that is the Divine injunctions. These Divine injunctions are of various kinds, i.e., some of them are obligatory, some desirable and some voluntary. The obligatory ones are compulsory and their compliance is indispensable. What is termed as Mustahabbat (desirables) are also highly important for gaining the Pleasure of Allah. Similarly, voluntary acts are a means of getting close to Allah. Ordinary people are sometimes puzzled by the abundance of the latter and want to adhere to the first two, that is obligations and what comes in the category of desirables. A desire to this effect is mentioned in this Hadith. The Prophet (PBUH) answered the query in this matter by saying to the inquirer, “Keep your tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah.” Keeping the tongue wet with the remembrance of Allah here means its abundant recitation. In other words, one should make the remembrance of Allah a permanent feature. If one is not able to do many voluntary good works, which some people find difficult, the remembrance of Allah will make up the deficiency in that regard.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 36 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (28 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 36. Then when Musa (Moses) came to them (Pharaoh) with Our Clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they said: “This is nothing but invented magic. Never did we hear of this among our fathers of old.”

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 36. When Moses came to them with Our clear signs, they said: “This is nothing but sorcery faked up: never did we hear the like among our fathers of old!” This is what Moses was thinking of when he had said: “They may accuse me of falsehood”. To accuse the purest Truth of lying is a favorite trick of those whose chief stock in trade is deception and sorcery and catching the attention of the vulgar by arts adapted to their ignorant minds! ‘As to this higher talk of the worship of the One true God, why, our ancestors have worshipped power and patronage, as concentrated in Pharaoh, from the most ancient times!’

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, “The best type of Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) is speaking a true word in the presence of a tyrant ruler.”

[Abu Dawud Hadith # 4344 and At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 2174].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 36. “when Musa (Moses) came to them (Pharaoh) with Our Clear Ayat they said: “This is nothing but invented magic. Never did we hear of this among our fathers of old.” Also in Surah Taha Ayat 24.”“Go to Fir’aun (Pharaoh)! Verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience, and has behaved as an arrogant, and as a tyrant).” Jihad has many degrees. Preaching virtue is also Jihad. The most meritorious of all is the effort of communicating the Message of Allah to an unjust ruler. Similarly, if a society is so much given to a vice that no one can dare to utter a word against it, then to protest against it can also be reckoned as the best Jihad.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 35 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (27 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 35. Allah said: Musa “We will strengthen your arm through your brother, and give you both power, so they shall not be able to harm you, with Our Ayat (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), you two as well as those who follow you will be the victors.”

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 35. He said: “We will certainly strengthen thy arm through thy brother, and invest you both with authority, so they shall not be able to touch you: with Our Sign shall ye triumph, – you two as well as those who follow you.” To touch you: to approach you anywhere near, in the wonders and Signs that you will show them under the divine authority with which you are invested. The potency of Allah’s Light is such that its divine rays reach the humblest of those who seek after Him. The Prophets can certainly work wonders, but their sincere followers in Faith can do so also in their own spheres. Wonders may appeal to people, but they are not the highest Signs of Allah’s workings, and they are around us every day in our lives.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah  [SAWW] (PBUH) said, “The relationship of the believer with another believer is like (the bricks of) a building, each strengthens the other.” He  [SAWW](PBUH) illustrated this by interlacing the fingers of both his hands.

[Al-Bukhari Volume 3, Book 43, Number Hadith 626)

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 35. Allah said: Musa “We will strengthen your arm through your brother, and give you both power, This Hadith enjoins unity in the Muslim community, each member of which is like a brick, which, when they are all combined, lend strength to each other. Similarly, Muslims are like hands and arms, which physically joined together, are bound to cooperate with one another.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 34 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (26 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 34. “And (Musa AS) my brother Haroon (Aaron) he is more eloquent in speech than me so send him with me as a helper to confirm me. Verily! I fear that they will believe me.” Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 34. “And Musa AS requested Allah to grant him his brother Haroon He is more eloquent in speech than I: so send him with me as a helper, to confirm (and strengthen) me: for I fear that they may accuse me of falsehood.”

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-Aas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away (the lives of) the religious scholars till none of the scholars stays alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 03, Hadith # 100]

Lesson: It is a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgment that the world will be deprived of genuine religious scholars, and illiterate people will become leaders who will have neither the knowledge of the Qur’an nor that of the Hadith. Despite their ignorance of the Qur’an and the Hadith, they will be called Mujtahid (jurist entitled to independent reasoning) and Imam (leader) and will mislead people with their legal opinions and self-created problems. Besides urging us to acquire religious knowledge with a view to producing more scholars in the society, this Hadith also warns us against the ignorant self-styled `Ulama’. It also warns us against entrusting religious leadership to them.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 33 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (25 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 33. He (Musa AS) said: “My Lord! I have killed a man among them, and I fear that they will kill me.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 33. He said: “O my Lord! I have slain a man among them, and I fear lest they slay me. It is not that Moses is not reassured from all fear on account of the apparent snake which his rod had become, or from the sacred and unfamiliar surroundings in which he found himself. On this point his heart had been completely assured. But he is still new to his mission, and the future is obscure to his mind. Pharaoh was after him, to take his life, and apparently with good cause, because one of Pharaoh’s men had been slain at his hands. And now he is commanded to go to Pharaoh and rebuke him and his Chiefs. The inner doubts and difficulties of his human mind he frankly lays before his Lord, and asks for a little human and visible support, which is granted him at once, viz.: the help of his brother Aaron.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abu Aufa (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: On one occasion the Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) was confronting the enemy. He waited until the sun had declined. Then he stood up to address the people and said, “O people! Do not wish for an encounter with the enemy. Pray to Allah to grant you safety; (but) when you encounter them, show patience, and know that Jannah is under the shades of the swords.” Then he  [SAWW](PBUH) said: “Allahumma munzilal-kitab, wa mujriyas-sahab, wa hazimal-Ahzab, ihzimhum wansurna alaihim (O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Disperser of the clouds, Defeater of the Confederates, put our enemy to rout and support us against them).”

[Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 52, Hadith # 210]

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 33 “and I fear that they will kill me” From this Hadith we learn that it is better to start war in the afternoon because this was the practice of the Prophet  [SAWW](PBUH). The desire for war is prohibited, but when war becomes inevitable, one should not show his back to the enemy; rather, one should fight to the best of his ability and be steadfast in it.  Along with steadfastness and patience in fighting, one should also pray for victory because all powers lie with Allah, and no one can gain victory without His Will. The Hadith also mentions a supplication which one should make when he encounters the enemy.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 32 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (24 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 32. “Put your hand in your bosom, it will come forth white without a disease, and draw your hands close to your side to be free from fear (that which you suffered from the snake, and also by that your hand will return to its original state). These are two Burhan (signs, miracles, evidence, proofs) from your Lord to Fir’aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs. Verily, they are the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 32. “Move thy hand into thy bosom, and it will come forth white without stain (or harm), and draw thy hand close to thy side (to guard) against fear. Those are the two credentials from thy Lord to Pharaoh and his Chiefs: for truly they are a people rebellious and wicked. “Literally, “draw thy wing close to thy side, (away) from fear”. When a bird is frightened, it ruffles its wings and prepares to fly away, but when it is calm and composed, it sits with its wings drawn close to its sides, showing a mind secure from danger.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said,  “A man’s Salat in congregation is twenty-five times more rewarding than his Salat at home or in his shop, and that is because when he performs his Wudu’ properly and proceeds towards the mosque with the purpose of performing Salat in congregation, he does not take a step without being raised a degree (in rank) for it and having a sin remitted for it, till he enters the mosque. When he is performing Salat, the angels continue to invoke Blessings of Allah on him as long as he is in his place of worship in a state of Wudu’. They say: `O Allah! Have mercy on him! O Allah! Forgive him.’ He is deemed to be engaged in Salat as long as he waits for it.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 01, Chapter 11, Hadith # 620]

Lesson: This Hadith tells us that Salat in congregation is far more in reward than Salat offered alone. In the preceding Hadith it has been held 27 times and in the present, 25 times more rewarding. The reason for this variation offered by some ‘Ulama’ is that at first it was told to the Prophet [SAWW](PBUH) 25 times and then it was increased to 27 and he communicated to his Companions what was revealed to him. Some other scholars have linked it with the form, spirit and concentration of the Salat. The more meticulous one is about its details; the greater will be the reward for it. Another difference of opinion in this respect is regarding the nature of Salat in congregation. How does one become eligible for higher reward? Does he become eligible for it by performing Salat in congregation anywhere, i.e., at home, in business premises, at an open place, in the desert etc., or in that congregation which gathers in a mosque? Some `Ulama’ go with the first opinion while others agree with the second. Hafiz Ibn Hajar preferred the second view on the grounds that the words occurring in the text of this Hadith support this view.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 31 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (23 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 31. “And throw your stick! ” But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and looked not back. (It was said): “O Musa (Moses)! Draw near, and fear not. Verily, you are of those who are secure.

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 31. “Now do thou throw thy rod!” but when he saw it moving (of its own accord) as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: O Moses!” (It was said), “Draw near, and fear not: for thou art of those who are secure. The verbal meaning is: ‘you have nothing to fear from what appears to be a snake: it is a snake, not for you, but for Pharaoh.” But there is a deeper meaning besides. Moses had now been called to a higher and spiritual mission. He had to meet the hatred of the Egyptians and circumvent their trickery and magic. He had now the security of Faith: in all dangers and difficulties Allah would guide and protect him, for he was actually in Allah’s service, one of the Elect.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) used to say in the morning: “Allahumma bika asbahna, wa bika Amsaina, wa bika nahya, wa bika namutu, wa ilaikan-nushur (O Allah! With Your Power we have come to the morning, with Your Power we come to the evening, with Your Power we live, and we die, and to You will we return).” In the evening he would say: “Allahumma bika Amsaina, wa bika nahya, wa bika namutu, wa ilaikan-nushur (O Allah! With Your Power, we have come to the evening, by You do we live, by You do we die, and to You is the return).”

[At-Tirmidhi Hadith # 3391 and Abu Dawud Hadith # 5068].

Lesson: It is desirable to recite the invocations cited in the Hadith in the morning and the evening.

Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 30 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (22 April 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[28].Surah Al-Qasas [The Narration]

Ayat 30. So, when he reached it (the fire), he was called from the right side of the valley, in the blessed place from the tree: “O Musa (Moses)! Verily! I am Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!

Tafseer of Surah Al-Qasas (The Narration) Ayat 30. But when he came to the (fire), a voice was heard from the right bank of the valley, from a tree in hallowed ground: “O Moses! Verily I am Allah, the Lord of the Worlds….We are to suppose the appearance of a bush burning but not consumed the real explanation of the Burning Bush will be found in 27:8. It was not a fire, but a reflection of the Glory of God.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: A Bedouin came to the Prophet  [SAWW] (PBUH) and asked him, “O Messenger of Allah  [SAWW] (PBUH), what are the two imperatives which lead to Jannah or Hell”. He  [SAWW](PBUH) replied, “He who dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Jannah, and he who dies associating partners with Allah will enter the Fire”.

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 41, Hadith # 168]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Qasas Ayat 30. “Verily! I am Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!” This Hadith also holds promise for a Muslim that being a Muslim and Muwahhid (believer in the Oneness of Allah) he will be at last sent to Jannah. Whether he goes straight to Jannah or after suffering the punishment of his sins in Hell, is a separate issue, but he will not remain in Hell forever. Eternal punishment in Hell is reserved only for pagans, polytheists, and infidels.
