Surah Al Isra – Ayah 9

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 8_*

*_It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you, but if you repeat [the mischief], We will repeat [the punishment]. And We have made hell a place of detention for the disbelievers.(8)_*

This Ayah Offers hope for mercy, Warns of repeated punishment and describes the purpose of creation of Hell.‼️ After the Bani Israil were inflicted with punishment they should have taken this destruction a way leading to seeking Allah Azzawajal’s mercy if the right lesson is drawn and acted upon. *But if the Jews revert to spreading corruption on earth, then the law will inevitably operate and the punishment will again be inflicted.* _They certainly did revert to their corrupt ways and plotted against the final Messenger SAWS, then Allah Azzawajal sent the Muslims against them who drove them out of Arabia. They did this again with the same results, until HE SWT caused them to be humiliated during the twentieth century._ *We see now how they have again reverted to tyranny and corruption in the state of Palestine which uses very cruel tactics against the Palestinians, the owners of the land.* _Allah Azzawajal is certain to send HIS servants against them who will make them suffer much for their corruption in fulfilment of HIS firm warning and in accordance with HIS law which never fails. We need only wait and see this take place._

Besides that, Allah Azzawajal has prepared the punishment of Hellfire as an eternal prison for them in the hereafter, because that is the punishment that is fitting for those who do not want to believe and commit disobedience persistently.

*_Act of the Day is_* to understand that the purpose of narrating these events relating to the Bani Isra’il in the Qur’an and making Muslims listen to them is to let Muslims understand that they are no exceptions to this divine law.‼️ *Be it this mortal world or the eternal universe of their Faith, their honor and ascendancy, possessions and wealth are inseparably tied with obedience to Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la.* _Whenever they veer away from their obedience to Allah Azzawajal and the Noble Prophet SAWS, their enemies and disbelieving tyrants of all sorts shall be empowered to prevail over them. When this happens, the desecration of their places of worship will also not remain too far._

–To understand that Allah Subhanahu wa Taa’la has made two places on this Earth to serve as the Qiblah or orientation for those who worship HIM, *Earlier the Baytul-maqdis and later the Baytullah*. But, the divine law relating to each of them is different. _Baytullah shall be protected and that disbelievers shall never take it over is a security concern that Allah Azzawajal has taken it upon Himself. But, this law does not apply in the case of Baytul-maqdis. Instead, as the Ayat cited above tell us, when Muslims go astray and start indulging in disobedience and sin, this Qiblah will be snatched away from them and it will pass into the control of disbelievers._

–To understand that the only weapon system and military hardware with which Baytul-maqdis and Palestine can return to Muslim hands are still there waiting to be picked up. *The only solution is to Return to Allah Azzawajal genuinely and passionately. Have certitude of Akhirah. Obey the injunctions of the Shariah. Stay away from imitating and trusting others in our social and political goals*. Finally, let us place our trust in Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la in all our affairs.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and reflect and gain HIS help through our total submission to HIM in every aspect of our life. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Isra – Ayah 7

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 7_*

*_If you do good, you do good for your own selves. If you do evil, you do it to your own detriment. So when the second of the two came to pass, [We sent your enemies against you] to humiliate and suppress you, and to enter the mosque [the temple in Jerusalem] as they did the first time, and to utterly destroy all that fell into their power.(7)_*

The Ayah emphasises upon personal responsibility accountability and the consequences of sin.‼️ *The Bani Israil once again started spreading corruption after they regained power.* _This corruption was more severe than the first one, as religion was followed merely for appearance’s sake. And the punishment for this great corruption was meted out to them in this way that in the year 70 A. D. King Titus of Rome attacked Baitul Maqdis and razed it to the ground. The holy mosque (Temple of Solomon) was destroyed and countless people were done to death. This tragic event scattered Bani Israil so badly that they took shelter in various foreign countries around the world._ *Thus, they felt double suffering.* They experienced material suffering in the form of losing power, property, and women who were taken prisoner by the enemy. They also experienced moral suffering because the holy places and symbols of the sanctity of their religion were violated and destroyed.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the *never changing rule* with effects that transcend this life into the next.‼️ *It makes everything a human being does, with all its results and consequences, totally his own. Thus, reward is the natural fruit of action.* _Hence it is determined by the nature of the action done. This is to say that a human being is responsible for himself. It is he who chooses to do good or evil, and he alone who will receive the reward or bear the consequences of what he does. He has only himself to blame when the result of his action leads him to suffer punishment._

The Ayah reminds us:

1. To take responsibility for our actions.
2. To avoid evil deeds.
3. To seek forgiveness for our sins.
4. To appreciate Allah Azzawajal’s mercy.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to always do the good and gain HIS pleasure and Mercy. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Isra – Ayah 6

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 6_*

*_Then We allowed you to prevail over them once again; We strengthened you with wealth and offspring, and made you greater in number.(6)_*

The Ayah describes the return of the Divine mercy to the children of Israel and they were relieved from their slavery of Babylon.‼️ _During the slavery of Bani Israil in Babylon, various movements of reformation were launched and gradually they turned towards Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la. It came about in this way that the king of Persia, Cyrus, conquered Babylon in 539 B.C. and thereafter he allowed the Jews to go back to Jerusalem and to construct Allah’s house there. Thus the Jews got the opportunity to return to their center and to construct Baitul Maqdis. Then Prophet Uzair explained and clarified the Torah before them in such a way that a new life surged in the Jews and they became prepared to give up anti- Shariah practices and to follow the Divine Shariah._ *This was the new life for Bani Israil, and when the Divine mercy came back to them, then all circumstances became favourable to them, there was abundance of provisions and increased birth rate and the numbers increased which had declined during the first major assault on them.*

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the way Allah ﷻ grant favours to those who abandon the sins after and seek forgiveness from Allah ﷻ as mentioned in Surah Nuh: 10-12

“Until I said (to them): `Ask forgiveness from your Lord, indeed HE is Oft-Forgiving.(10)

“(If you do that), HE will send heavy rain pouring down, to you;

And HE will give you abundant wealth and children, and HE will provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers (that flow through them) .(12)

–To understand that as long as humans are under the guidance of revelation and walk according to HIS guidance, they will be able to feel the blessings of Allah Azzawajal in this world.‼️ *They can also feel peace and happiness, the tranquility of life and their prosperity in the land.* _On the other hand, if humans deviate from the guidance of revelation and follow their desires, of course they will experience humiliation and and adversities. They will no longer feel the blessings that Allahﷻ provided in this world, and even those blessings will turn into disasters._ They will not experience happiness and prosperity in social life, but will become a people who will be oppressed and expelled from their own land.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and reflect and make us if those who constantly turn to HIM in repentance. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Isra – Ayah 5

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 5_*

*_When the first of the two came to pass, We sent against you slaves of Ours possessing great might and power, who wrought havoc throughout the land. And [this] decree was sure to be fulfilled.(5)_*

The refers to the terrible destruction of the Israelites they suffered after they had gained power. *They were humiliated at the hands of the Assyrians and Babylonians because of their acts of tyranny and corruption.*‼️ Because of their acts of disobedience, Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la brought them face to face with some of HIS servants who combined great might with strong determination. They overran those who had erred and spread corruption, completely subjugating them. *The king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, launched the attack on the kingdom of the Jews in 586-588 B.C. He completely destroyed the Jewish center, Jerusalem, so much so that he demolished the holy mosque.* _He killed thousands of Jews, and carried away countless persons as male and female slaves. This was the first calamity that came as a warning to the Israelites and the first chastisement that they suffered as a result therof._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that when the corruption becomes so rampant in a nation and transgression becomes a common entity then Allah Azzawajal causes its enemy nation to overpower it and causes the tyrants to rule over it. This is a very painful form of the Divine punishment.

—To understand the promise of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la which also applies to us if we continue to disobey HIS commands, the infidel nations will be let loose upon us and history is a evidence to this in recent times. Let’s take heed and mend our ways before it is too late.

This Ayah reminds us:

1. To recognize Allah Azzawajal’s power and authority.
2. To avoid disobedience and sin.
3. To appreciate Allah Azzawajal’s justice.
4. To learn from history.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la forgive our sins and grant us the ability to gain HIS pleasure through our Obedience. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Isra – Ayah 4

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 4_*

*_We declared to the Children of Israel in the Book: You will surely spread mischief in the land twice, and you will surely show great arrogance and tyranny.(4)_*

The Ayah highlights Allah Azzawajal’s decree about the children of Israel.‼️ *HE SWT had revealed to Musa (AS), as stated in the Torah, that the Children of Israel would cause trouble twice in the land of Palestine, so that HE SWT would mobilize their enemies to kill, plunder and destroy their land.* _’The book’ *الْكِتٰبِ* referred to here is *Lauh Al Mahfuz*. Everything that will happen is written there. It means that Allah already knows what they will do._ The Quran in many of its Ayaat alludes to the bad deeds of the Children of Israel such as killing the prophets, spreading bribery, usury and hiding the truth. Still from this Ayah it is stated, “You have become arrogant and have spread acts of tyranny.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the two words *fasaad فساد* means spreading corruption on earth against the commands of Allah Azzawajal and *uluww عُلُوًّا* means arrogant, haughty or considering oneself superior to others.‼️ _The Children of Israel who were previously under the rule of Pharaoh were saved by the Mercy of Allah Azzawajal. However, after being free, they spread corruption and evil on earth rather than remaining grateful for HIS blessings._

This Ayah reminds us:

1. To recognise Allah Azzawajal’s knowledge and power.
2. To avoid arrogance and disobedience.
3. The importance of obedience
4. To strive for justice and righteousness.
5. To learn from history regarding the behaviour of children of Israel and shun arrogance.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to learn from history and make us if HIS obedient slaves. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day comes from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 3_*

*_”(They were) Offsprings of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nuh (PBUH). Indeed, he was a greatful slave.”(3)_*

_After the Deluge of the time of Noah A.S., the only descendants of Noah A.S., were those who were saved in the Ark with him. They had special reason to celebrate the praises of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la. But they relapsed into idolatry, sin and abomination. They are reminded of the True and sincere devotion of Noah A.S., himself, as contrasted with the unworthiness of Noah’s (PBUH) descendants, especially the Children of Israel._

_This ayah, being addressed to the descendants of Previous Prophets, as; *”You are the descendants of Noah and his companions;”* therefore, you should behave in a manner as behoves such people. You should make Allah Azzawajal Alone your Guardian, for your ancestors escaped death from the flood only because they had made Allah Azzawajal their Guardian.”_ (Please read S17:A2-A10 also to understand about the rewards (twice) and punishment (twice) of the Children of Israel).

*_Act for the Day is:_* to understand the reasons for mentioning Prophet Nuh Alahis salam here in the Ayah is to remind the whole humanity as Prophet Nuh(AS) is the second father of entire humanity after Prophet Adam(AS) and he is being described as a monotheistic and a grateful slave. ‼️ Therefore the fundamental belief of our forefathers is Tawheed hence they shouldn’t make excuses for their deviation away from Tawheed.

–To always remain grateful to Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la for all HIS favours and blessings. *Prophet Nuh لسَّلَامُ عَلَيْهِ is being described as a grateful slave as he always praised Allah ﷻ when eating, drinking, dressing, and in all his actions.* _The lesson that we can take from the story of Prophet Nuh عَلَيْهِ ٍلَسَّلَامُ is that he and his followers were saved because he was very grateful to Allah ﷻ. So if we want to be safe, we should always be grateful for the blessings of Allah ﷻ and show gratitude verbally as well as through our Obedience._

Imam Ahmad reported that Anas bin Malik said: “The Messenger of Allah SAWS said:

*_“Allah will be pleased with HIS servant if, when he eats something or drinks something, he praises Allah for it.”_* (This was also recorded by Muslim, At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa’i. Muslim 4:2095)

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to always remain grateful to HIM through our Obedience and gain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Isra – Ayah 2

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 2_*

*_We gave Moosa the Book, and made it a guide for the Children of Israel, [saying]: Do not take any other than Me as a disposer of affairs.(2)_*

After Allah Azzawajal mentions how HE SWT took HIS servant Muhammad SAWS, on the Journey by Night, HE SWT follows it by mentioning Musa(AS), HIS servant and Messenger who also spoke with HIM. Allah Azzawajal often mentions Muhammad SAWS and Musa(AS) together, and HE SWT mentions the Tawrah and the Qur’an together.‼️ *The divine Sunnah throughout history has been to guide society to Tawheed and servitude.* _Therefore, before the Prophet Muhammad SAWS was sent, Allah Azzawajal sent Prophet Musa(AS) to the Children of Israel. Prophet Musa(AS.) based on the Torah revealed by Allah Azzawajal, invited the Children of Israel to guidance and warned them not to take anyone besides Allahﷻ as their vakil._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that Allah Azzawajal will not inflict punishment on any community unless HE SWT sends them first a messenger to warn and remind them.‼️ This makes clear the primary purpose of giving the book to Musa(AS). It serves as a source of guidance and warns them that they should not take anyone else other than Allah Azzawajal as their *Vakeel(Guardian)*. This is the essence of Imaan. Anyone who seeks a guardian other than Allah Azzawajal is misguided and devoid of true faith.

–To understand that this Ayah serves as a reminder to the Quraysh who were doubting the authenticity of Prophet SAWS that the earlier to this previous Prophets had been sent with the Book and with the same task of calling people to Tawheed. If they reject this prophet Muhammad SAWS then they will also receive the punishment as Bani Israel.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to put our complete Trust in HIM as HE SWT is our Maula and the Best protector. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Isra Ayah 1_*

*_Glory be to Him Who took His slave for a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Distant Mosque, the environs of which We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. Verily He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.(1)_*

This Ayah describes the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Distant Mosque in Jerusalem, also known as Al-Aqsa Mosque this is the first stage.‼️ As for the second stage in which the Prophet SAWS was carried to *‘Sidratul Muntaha’* located in the seventh heaven, it has been narrated in the Surah An-Najm

*This journey, known as Isra wal Mi’raj, was a turning point in the Prophet’s life and a testament to Allah Azzawajal’s power and wisdom.*

_According to the Ayah, Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la took HIS servant on this journey to show him some of HIS signs, emphasizing HIS ability to do anything HE SWT wills. The verse also highlights Allah Azzawajal’s attributes as All-Hearing and All-Seeing, emphasizing HIS omniscience and omnipotence._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that this journey of the Prophet SAWS was physical and it was undertaken in a state of wakefulness.‼️ _The distance between Baitul Maqdis and Makkah is about 1000 miles. In those days this journey took about 40 days to cover this distance, but Allah Azzawajal arranged for the Prophet SAWS to cover it within a night. In the hadith it is mentioned that the Prophet SAWS rode a *‘Buraq’,* and Archangel Jibril was with him, that is this journey was covered on a carrier of lightning-speed._

To understand that the Ayah starts with the word *سبحان Subhan* means *Exalted or perfect*. Therefore it is not beyond the power of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la to arrange for such a miraculous journey. Those who consider such a thing impossible are under a wrong impression about Allah Azzawajal’s might. As for the objective of this journey, it is stated in the ayah that Allah Azzawajal wanted to show some of HIS signs to HIS Prophet. By the signs are meant those signs which are found in the Aqsa Mosque, and which reflect on monotheism, worship of only one God, the common dawah of the prophets, and their struggle for the religion of truth, the history of the rise and fall of Bani Israil, and Allah Azzawajal’s law of reward and punishment.

From this Ayah there are four lessons that can be learned:

1. Allah Azzawajal calls Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with the title of *’His servant’ بِعَبْدِهٖ* instead of the title Rasool or prophet. This shows one can attain this honour of being called a servant of Allah through his obedience as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the most noble human being and Allah ﷻ used the word ‘servant’ for him, then that means the status of ‘servant of Allah Azzawajal’ is the highest status for humans.

2. Night is the best time to get closer to Allah Azzawajal by way of praying Tahajjud. Therefore, worshiping and asking for forgiveness at night gets more attention in Islam.

3. The mosque is the best launching pad for believers towards spirituality.

4. Masjidul Aqsa is a holy place that must be guarded by Muslims.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to gain HIS closeness through our acts of Obedience. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Introduction to Surah Al Isra

*_A Brief introduction to Surah Al-Isra(Bani Israil)_*

Surah Al-Isra is the 17th surah (chapter) of The Glorious Quran. Name of the surah means *The Night Journey.* It has 111 Ayaat (verses) and was revealed in the holy city of Makkah i.e., before Prophet ﷺ migrated to the city of Medina. This surah can be found in juz / paara 15.

*This Surah takes its name (Bani Israil) from Ayah 4.* But this name is merely a distinctive appellation like the names of many other surahs and not a descriptive title, and does not mean that “Bani Isra’il” is the theme of this Surah.

*_Period of Revelation:_*
The very first Ayah indicates that this Surah was revealed on the occasion of *Miraaj (Ascension).* According to the Traditions and books on the life of the Noble Prophetﷺ, this event happened one year before Hijrah. Thus, this Surah is one of those which were revealed.

*_Theme and Topics:_*
This Surah is a wonderful combination of warning, admonition and instruction, which have been blended together in a balanced proportion.‼️ *The disbelievers of Makkah had been admonished to take a lesson from the miserable end of the Israelites and other communities and mend their ways within the period of respite given by Allāh Azzawajal, which was about to expire*. They should, therefore, accept the invitation that was being extended by Muḥammad ﷺ and the Qurʾān; otherwise they shall be annihilated and replaced by other people. *Incidentally, the Israelites, with whom Islam was going to come in direct contact in the near future at Al-Madinah have also been warned that they should learn a lesson from the chastisements that have already been inflicted on them.* _They were warned, “Take advantage of the Prophethood of Muḥammad ﷺ because that is the last opportunity which is being given to you. If even now you behave as you have been behaving, you shall meet with a painful torment_.

*_The Major Issues focussed in the Surah:_*

–Isra’ & Divine Commandments:
—Worship none but Allah
—Be kind and obedient to parents
—Give to relatives and the needy
—Do not be a miser or a spendthrift
–Do not kill your children for fear of poverty
—Do not commit adultery
—Do not slay without just cause
—Do not say anything without knowledge
—Do not walk arrogantly on earth
—Safeguard the property of orphans
—Allah Azzawajal does not beget children and those who say this, utter a monstrous lie.
—There is a life after death.

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 128

*_Today’s Thought for the day comes from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 128_*

*_”Indeed Allah is with those Who fear (Him), And those who are good-doers”.(128)_*

*This is the last Ayah of Surah An-Nahl.* _It is the highest consolation which the righteous men (man/women) can receive – *’The assurance that Allah Azzawajal is with them’.‼️* For such a high honour for *’Allah Azzawajal to be with them’;* A double qualification is indicated for so high a honour;_
_1) That they should not yeild to human passion or anger or impatience, and;_
_2) That they should go on continuously doing good all around them._

_*”Allah Azzawajal is with those who fear HIM”* (It is the Fear of losing Love or upset the one whom you Love, not the fear of fearful/scary) and because they scrupulously refrain from evil ways and always adopt the righteous attitude, for they know that their actions and deeds are not determined by the evils others do to them, but by their own sense of righteousness; so they return good for evil._

*_Act for the Day is:_* _To understand *’To Attain the Presence of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la’* in the sense of *”I am with you”* is the culmination of the righteous man’s aspiration._

_Let’s grow this desire in our hearts and do our best to achieve this qualification, *because Allah Azzawajal is with those who live in self-restraint A pure, good, and righteous Life.*_

*_We ask Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la to make us among those who fear HIM and do good. This is the end of the commentary on Surah An-Nahl. All praise and thanks are for Allah Azzawajal, and May the blessings and peace of Allah Azzawajal be upon Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam his family, and his Companions abundantly until the Day of Judgement._*

*_May Allah Azzawajal accept this humble attempt and forgive the mistakes and shortcomings. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
