Brief introduction to Surah Al Hijr

*_A Brief Introduction to Surah 15 Al-Hijr_*

The period of its revelation is in Makkah when the persecution was at its maximum.

The Surah takes its name from Ayah 80 where the name *Hijr* meaning Rocky region has been mentioned.

*وَلَـقَدۡ كَذَّبَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡحِجۡرِ الۡمُرۡسَلِيۡنَۙ‏ ﴿15:80﴾*
*_Indeed, the residents of the Stone Valley also denied the messengers._*

*_Central Theme._*

It is about the same period as that of Surah Ibrahim, for two things are quite prominent in its background.

*1)First,* it appears from the repeated warnings in this Surah that in spite of the fact that the Noble Prophet SAWS had been propagating the Message for many years, his people in general had not shown any inclination towards its acceptance and they had become more and more obdurate and stubborn in their antagonism, enmity and ridicule with the passage of time.

*2)Secondly,* by that time the Noble Prophet SAWS had begun to feel a little tired of making strenuous efforts to eradicate disbelief and opposition of his people. That is why Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la has consoled and comforted him over and over again by way of encouragement.

*Apart from warnings to the disbelievers and encouragement to the Prophet SAWS, the Surah also contains admonition and instructions.* _As a matter of fact, the Quran never confines itself to mere warning; rebuke and censure, but resorts to precept in every suitable place. Accordingly, this Surah contains brief arguments for Tauhid on the one hand, and admonition in the story of Adam AS and Shaitan on the other._

*Surah Al-Hijr encapsulates timeless lessons,* serving as a guide for believers facing adversity and emphasizing the consequences of rejecting divine guidance. *Through its narratives and admonitions, the surah urges believers to cultivate humility, obedience, and mindfulness of Allah Azzawajal.* _The rocky path, metaphorically represented in the title, symbolizes the challenges of life and the importance of steadfastness on the path of righteousness. By reflecting on the verses of Surah Al-Hijr, believers find timeless wisdom to navigate the rocky terrain of their spiritual journey._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to reflect and ponder upon the Ayat of Surah Hijr and take benefit. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
