Surah Al Mumin Ayat 29 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (27 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 29.  (A believing man of Firaun’ s (Pharaoh) family, who hid his faith said) “O my people! Yours is the kingdom this day, you are uppermost in the land. But who will save us from the Torment of Allah, should it befall us?” Firaun (Pharaoh) said: “I show you only that which I see (correct), and I guide you only to the path of right policy!”

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 29. “O my People! Yours is the dominion this day: Ye have the upper hand in the land: but who will help us from the Punishment of Allah, should it befall us?” Pharaoh said: “I point out to you what I see (myself); Nor do I guide you but to the Path of Right!” ‘Do not be puffed up with arrogance because the power is in your hands at present! Do you deserve it? Will it last? If you are sinning and drawing upon yourselves Allah’s Punishment, is there anything that can shield you from it?’ Pharaoh’s egotism and arrogance come out. ‘I can see and understand everything. As I see things, so do I direct you. The Path which I see must be right, and you must follow it.’.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Tamim bin Aus Ad-Dari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Ad-Deen is sincerity”. We said: “For whom?” He replied, “For Allah, His Book, His Messenger and for the leaders of the Muslims and their masses”.

[Muslim Book 01, Chapter 24, Hadith # 098]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 29. “You are the best in the land. But who will save us from the Torment of Allah, should it befall us?” This Hadith stresses the importance and merits of general sincerity. Sincerity for Allah here means that one must have true faith in Him and He should be worshipped with full devotion and sincerity. Sincerity for the Qur’an means that one should confirm its truth with one’s full heart and mind, recite it regularly, act upon the injunctions contained in it with meticulous care and strictly avoid its misinterpretation. Sincerity of the Prophet  ﷺ (PBUH) means sincere confirmation of his Prophet hood, faithful obedience of his orders and adherence to his Sunnah. The goodwill of the Muslim rulers stands here for co-operating with them in their lawful orders and obedience of their orders which are free from any trace of sin. If they deviate from the Straight Path they should be persuaded to turn to virtue. One should not revolt against them unless they commit infidelity. The goodwill of the Muslim masses means that one should work for the betterment of their life in this world and the Hereafter. They should be provided the right guidance, induced to perform good deeds and deterred from evils.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 28 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (26 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 28. And a believing man of Firaun’ s (Pharaoh) family, who hid his faith said: “Would you kill a man because he says: My Lord is Allah, and he has come to you with clear signs (proofs) from your Lord? And if he is a liar, upon him will be (the sin of) his lie; but if he is telling the truth, then some of that (calamity) wherewith he threatens you will befall on you.” Verily, Allah guides not one who is a Musrif (a polytheist, or a murderer who shed blood without a right, or those who commit great sins, oppressor, transgressor), a liar!

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 28. A believer, a man from among the people of Pharaoh, who had concealed his faith, said: “Will ye slay a man because he says, ´My Lord is Allah.- when he has indeed come to you with Clear (Signs) from your Lord? and if he be a liar, on him is (the sin of) his lie: but, if he is telling the Truth, then will fall on you something of the (calamity) of which he warns you: Truly Allah guides not one who transgresses and lies! There is nothing to justify the identification of this man with the man mentioned in 28:20, who warned Moses long before Moses had received his mission. On the contrary, in this passage, the man is evidently speaking after Moses had received his mission, preached to Pharaoh, and got a certain amount of success, for which Pharaoh and his people were trying to seek his life. Moses had evidently already brought his Clear Signs. A commonsense view is put before them by an Egyptian who loves his own people and does not wish them to perish in sin. “Will you kill this man for calling on Allah? Have you not seen his character and behavior? Do you not see the ‘Clear Signs’ about him that bespeak his credentials? Suppose for a moment that he is a liar and pretender: he will suffer for his falsehood, but why should you turn against Allah? But suppose that he is really inspired by Allah to tell you the truth and warn you against evil, what will be your fate when Allah’s Wrath descends? For it must descend if he is a true Messenger sent by Allah.” This is with reference to the “Clear Signs”. ‘They are Signs of Allah’s guidance, for Allah would never guide a man who exceeds the bounds of truth and tells you lies! Such a man is bound to be found out!’.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said,  there is none born but is created to his true nature (Islam). It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian (or a Polytheist) or a Magian quite as beasts produce their young with their limbs perfect. Do you see anything deficient in them? Then he quoted the Quran, the nature made by Allah in which He has created men there is no altering of Allah’s creation; that is the right religion”

[Muslim Book 03, Chapter 33, Hadith # 6423].

Lesson: This Hadith brings out the following point: Only Allah has a power to guide any to the true path the right path is Knowledge and understanding of Deen (religion) here stands for the understanding of the Qur’an and Hadith, religious injunctions, and knowledge of the lawful and the unlawful.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 27 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (25 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 27. Musa (Moses) said: “Verily, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant person who believes not in the Day of Reckoning!”

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 27. Moses said: “I have indeed called upon my Lord and your Lord (for protection) from every arrogant one who believes not in the Day of Account!” The whole point of the Gospel of Unity which Moses preached was that the God of Moses and the God of Pharaoh, of Israel and Egypt , the Lord of all the Worlds, was One-Allah, the only True God.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) said “When (Prophet) Ibrahim (Abraham) was thrown into the fire, he said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs.” So did Messenger of Allah Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) when he was told: “A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them”. But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)”.

[Al-Bukhari Book 06, Chapter 60, Hadith # 086]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 27. Musa (Moses) said: “Verily, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord” Even in the worst circumstances one should always have faith and trust in Allah.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 26 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (24 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 26. Firaun (Pharaoh) said: “Leave me to kill Musa AS (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)! I fear that he may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!”

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 26. Said Pharaoh: “Leave me to slay Moses; and let him call on his Lord! What I fear is lest he should change your religion, or lest he should cause mischief to appear in the land!” This is an episode that occurs when Moses, invested with his mission, confronts Pharaoh in his Court and preaches to him: and following verses;. Some of Pharaoh’s people did afterwards give up the worship of Pharaoh and of the Egyptian gods and believed “in the Lord of Aaron and Moses” and in fact suffered martyrdom for the Faith of Unity:.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “When a Muslim plants a tree, whatever is eaten from it is charity from him and whatever is stolen is charity and whatever is subtracted from it is charity”.

[Muslim Book 010, Chapter 23, Hadith # 3764].

Another narration says: “If a Muslim plants a tree, or sows a field and men and beasts and birds eat from it, all of it is charity from him”.

[Muslim Book 010, Chapter 23, Hadith # 3766].

Lesson : This Hadith highlights the importance of gardening and agriculture. It is also one of the merits of these two occupations that if someone patiently bears the loss that he suffers due to pilferage or theft of their produce, he is rewarded for it.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 25 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (23 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 25. Then, when Musa AS brought them the Truth from Allah, they (Firaun’ s and his Ministers) said: “Kill the sons of those who believe with him and let their women live”, but the plots of disbelievers are nothing but errors!

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 25. Now, when he came to them in Truth, from Allah, they said, “Slay the sons of those who believe with him, and keep alive their females,” but the plots of Unbelievers (end) in nothing but errors (and delusions)! Verse 24 described the opposition of three types of Unfaiths, which opposed Faith, in different ways, as described in the last note. Qarun, in his overweening insolence, may well have called Moses and Aaron “sorcerers telling lies “In the Sinai desert, as he despised priests and men of God, and might cast the Egyptian reproach in their teeth as a reminiscence. Here, in verse 25, we have an episode about the time of the birth of Moses: “them” and “they” refer to Pharaoh and his Court; the “coming” of Moses here refers to the time of his birth. On that construction, “with him”, lower down in their speech would be elliptical, referring to “slay the sons”, as if they had said, “Kill all Israelite male children: the unknown Prophet to be born would be amongst them: so, kill them all with him.” In verse 26 we again skip some years and recall an episode when Moses, having got his mission, stood in Pharaoh’s Court, and some of the Egyptian Commonalty were almost ready to believe in him. That is, the Israelites, for they were the custodians of Allah’s Faith then. For the slaughter of Israelite children by Pharaoh.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Verily, Allah elevates some people with this Qur’an and abases others.”

[Muslim Book 04, Chapter 138, Hadith # 1780]

Lesson: Only such people will be elevated who act upon the teachings of the Qur’an and abstain from what is forbidden by Allah. The Muslims of the early centuries of Islam were blessed with great honor by Allah because they loved and applied the Qur’an. Because of this meaningful attachment with the Qur’an, they made great achievements in religious and worldly spheres. Those who neglected the teachings of Islam will be disgraced and humiliated. May Allah guide and enable us to re-establish our contact with the Qur’an so that we can regain our past glory. Exaltation and humiliation mentioned in the Hadith is bound to happen in both this life and the Hereafter.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 23 & 24 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (22 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 23. And indeed, Allah sent Musa PBUH (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and a manifest authority,

Ayat 24. To Firaun (Pharaoh), Haman and Karun (Korah), but they called (him): “A sorcerer, a liar!”

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 23. Of old We sent Moses PBUH, with Our Signs and an authority manifest, This is not the story of Moses himself, so much as an introduction to the story of the one just man who believed, in the court of Pharaoh: This Surah’s title Al-Mumin (“The Believer”) refers to him. Ayat 24. To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun; but they called (him)” a sorcerer telling lies!” Here are three types of Unfaiths, each showing a different phase, and yet all united in opposition to the Truth and Mission of Moses. (1) Pharaoh is the type of arrogance, cruelty, and reliance on brute force; Cf. 28:38-39. (2) Haman was Pharaoh’s minister (28:6; also 28:38): he was the type of a sycophant who would pander to the vanity of any man in power. (3) Karun excelled in his wealth, was selfish in its use, and overbearing to the poor (28:76-81). They all came to an evil end eventually..

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said,  “May he be miserable, the worshipper of the dinar and dirham, and the worshipper of the striped silk cloak. If he is given anything, he is satisfied; but if not, he is unsatisfied”.

[Al-Bukhari Book 04, Chapter 52, Hadith # 137]

Lesson: This Hadith exposed person who prefers worldly things over life hereafter. “A slave of dinar and dirham and silk cloaks (clothes)” here means a person who prefers these things to the Divine injunctions and commands and strives day and night to amass worldly goods. Instead of worshipping Allah, he worships such things and is thus guilty of worship of others besides Allah, a condition which causes his ruin.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 22 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (21 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 22. That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidence, proofs and signs but they disbelieved (in them). So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 22. That was because they came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs), but they rejected them: So, Allah called them to account: for He is Full of Strength, Strict in Punishment. But Allah in His Mercy always sends a Message of warning and good news through his messengers, and He gives His messengers Clear Signs and an authority that can be recognized. Among the Clear Signs are: (1) the pure and unselfish lives of the messengers; (2) the revelation of truth which they bring; (3) their influence on the course of events in their own and succeeding generations; etc. Some of these may be so remarkable that they merit the name of Miracles.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ  [SAWW](PBUH) said, “If Allah afflicts punishment upon a nation, it befalls the whole population indiscriminately and then they will be resurrected and judged according to their deeds.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 09, Chapter 88, Hadith # 224]

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 22 “So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment” When Allah’s punishment comes to pass, it does not distinguish between the upright and the wicked. However, the pious people will be saved from punishment after their death while the wicked ones will be punished in Hell. May Allah save us from all types of punishments.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 21 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (20 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 21. Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them? They were superior to them in strength, and in the traces (which they left) in the land. But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins. And none had them to protect them from Allah.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 21. Do they not travel through the earth and see what was the End of those before them? They were even superior to them in strength, and in the traces (they Have left) in the land: but Allah did call them to account for their sins, and none had to defend them against Allah. Cf. 30:9. And several other similar passages. 30:9. We can learn from the history of previous nations. Many of them were more powerful, or have left finer and more imposing monuments and made a deeper impression on the world around them than any particular generation addressed. “Traces” in the text may be taken in that extended sense. And yet all this did not save them from the consequences of their sins. They were called to account and punished. None of the power or pomp or skill of which they boasted could for a moment ward off the punishment when it came in Allah’s good time.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Seek refuge in Allah against the turmoil, attacks of misfortunes, and evil of judgment and joys of the enemies.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 8, Chapter 75, Hadith # 358 and Muslim].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Ar-Rum [The Romans] Ayat 33. “When harm touches men, they cry sincerely only to their Lord (Allah), turning to Him in repentance” The trouble of a trial which is unbearable for a person and from which he does not have the power to rid himself is called (juhd al-bala’), translated here as `turmoil’s’. Some people are of the opinion that it is synonymous with poverty combined with abundant children. But Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar is of the view that it is only one of the several kinds of “Troubles of a Trial.” “Ash-Shaqa’ is the opposite of good fortune, that is, to pray for protection from misfortune. No Decision of Allah is wrong but some of His Decisions may be harmful for certain people while others are beneficial for them. This means that their goodness or badness is related to persons. What it signifies is that one should pray to Allah to keep one safe from such decisions which are harmful for him. “Shamatat” the pleasure that one’s enemy feels in one’s trouble. In other words, it is prayed that Allah may protect one from any such trouble which is pleasing to one’s enemy, because when a person is in trouble; his enemies feel pleasure over it. In this Hadith, one sentence was added by Abu Sufyan and during his old age he did not remember which one it was. But we learn from other Hadith that it was “the pleasure of enemies”. (Ibn Allan). This Hadith also shows the honesty and integrity of the narrators of Hadith. They were honest to the extent that if a few words of supplication were added to a Hadith by its narrators, they would point it out. Some scholars have regarded these words an addition in the Hadith by its narrator, who is otherwise reliable, but it is not a problem of “addition of authority” because in that case, the addition is the saying of the Prophet (PBUH) which is mentioned by one narrator and omitted by another. But here it is quite different as the narrator of the Hadith himself is pointing out the addition made by him. Such additional words are technically called “Mudraj”.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 19 & 20 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (19 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 19. Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the hearts and breasts conceal.

Ayat 20. And Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke besides Him, cannot judge anything. Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 19 & 20. ((Allah)) knows of (the tricks) that deceive with the eyes, and all that the hearts (of men) conceal. Men may be taken in by tricks that deceive with the eyes, but Allah’s perfect knowledge penetrates through all mysteries. “Deceive with the eyes” may mean several things: (1) a sleight of hand (literally or figuratively) may deceive in respect of the eyes of beholders, for the things that they see do not actually happen; (2) it may be the deceiver’s own eyes that play false, because, for example, they show love when hatred is meant; or (3) it may be that the eyes of the beholder play him false, in that he sees things that he should not see, and thus sins with his eyes. Here we come into the region of evil motives and thoughts which may be concealed in the hearts, breast, or mind, but which are all perfectly known to Allah. Ayat 20. And Allah will judge with (justice and) Truth: but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not (be in a position) to judge at all. Verily it is Allah (alone) Who hears and sees (all things). If men build their hopes or their faith in anything except the Divine Grace, they will find themselves deserted. Any pretenses’ that they make will be known to Allah. On the other hand every single good act, or word, or motive, or aspiration of their will, will reach Allah’s Throne of Mercy.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Numan bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ  [SAWW](PBUH) said, verily, there is a piece of flesh in the body, if it is healthy, the whole body is healthy, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.”

[Muslim Book 10, Chapter 41, Hadith # 3882].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 19. Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the hearts and breasts conceal”, an important point underlying this Hadith concerns the heart. Its purity or impurity directly affects human conduct in a good or bad way. It is, therefore, absolutely necessary to cleanse the heart of all wiles and impurities, and this is not possible without sound Faith and consciousness of Allah.

Surah Al Mumin Ayat 18 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (18 Sep 2024)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[40].Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) also known as Surah Ghafir [The Forgiver]

Ayat 18. And warn them (O Muhammad ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) of the Day that is drawing near (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), when the hearts will be choking the throats, and they can neither return them (hearts) to their chests nor can they throw them out. There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), who could be given heed to.

Tafseer of Surah Al Mumin (The Believer) Ayat 18. Warn them of the Day that is (ever) drawing near, when the hearts will (come) right up to the Throats to choke (them); No intimate friend nor intercessor will the wrong-doers have, who could be listened to. Hearts will come right up to the Throats to choke them; an idiom implying that the whole of their life-functions will be choked up with terror. But a more subtle meaning emerges from further analysis. The heart (or the breast) is the seat of affection, emotion, and every kind of feeling, such as terror; pain, despair, etc. These things will overflow right up to the throat and choke it. The throat is the vehicle for the voice; their voice will be choked, and they will be able to say nothing. The throat is the channel for food, which goes to the stomach and maintains a healthy functioning of life; the choking means that the healthy functioning will stop, and there will be nothing but woe. In that enforcement of personal responsibility, what sympathy or intercession can the wrongdoers get? Is Hamim in any way connected with the Abbreviated Letters Ha Mim attached to this Surah?

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah ﷺ [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Among the inmates of Hell, a person who had led the most luxurious life in this world will be brought up on the Day of Resurrection and dipped in the Fire and will be asked: `O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any comfort? Did you happen to get any luxury?’ He will reply: `By Allah, no, my Rubb.’ And then one of the people of Jannah who had experienced extreme misery in the life of this world will be dipped in Jannah. Then he will be asked: `O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any misery? Have you ever encountered difficulty?’ He will say: “By Allah, not my Rubb, I neither experienced misery nor passed through hardship”.

[Muslim Book 39, Chapter 11, Hadith # 6738].

Lesson: as mentioned above in Lesson: as mentioned above in Surah Al-Mumin Ayat 18. “There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Zalimun” This Hadith also induces one to work for the life of the Hereafter, as the amenities of this world which one strives hard to attain, and for which one violates the injunctions of Shari`ah, will be forgotten with a glimpse of the Hell-fire. Therefore, the sensible course is that one should adopt a way of life which is full of true faith and good deeds so that one becomes eligible for the eternal blessings and joys of the life of the Hereafter..
