Surah An Nahl – Ayah 52

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 52_*

*_To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth, and constant obedience is due to Him alone. Will you then fear anyone other than Allah?(52)_*

This Ayah is a powerful affirmation of Allah’sﷻ sovereignty and sole authority.‼️This whole universe belongs to Allahﷻ totally. When the word *لَهُ Lahu* is placed at the beginning of a sentence, then it carries an *exclusive* meaning that is *No one owns this universe except Allahﷻ Alone.* Therefore, there is no place for us to depend on or go to except in the realm created by Allahﷻ. When Allahﷻ created this world and Allahﷻ owns it, why do we want to look for other gods?

_The word *”Ad-Deen” الدّينُ* which here means *obedience with the full sincerity of heart,* and *‘Wasib’ واصِبًا* used here means *essential and permanent.* It means that the essential and consistent obedience is our obligation to Allahﷻ. This obedience is neither temporary, casual nor dependent on anybody’s choice, but as a slave of Allahﷻ man’s relation with HIM must be of this nature only, and it must be from the bottom of his heart, and not merely a formal, ceremonial or mechanical following of the rule._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that Everything belongs to Allahﷻ Alone and all the *power belongs exclusively to HIM Alone* and among the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth none of them possess any power to cause us harm or benefit us. It is only Allahﷻ Who gives and bestows kindness. Therefore *Fear and reverence should be directed to Allah Alone*.‼️
There are other types of paganic believers who keep worshipping different deities for fear that they may cause harm to them. Thia type of practice is ‘familiar to many barbaric races.’ There are still a ‘numerous though oppressed people in Mesopotamia and adjacent countries’ known as Yazidis or *Devil-worshippers.* ‘This remarkable sect is distinguished by a special form of *dualism*. _While recognizing the existence of a Supreme Being, their peculiar reverence is given to Satan, chief of the angelic host, who now has the means of doing evil to mankind, and in his restoration will base the power of rewarding them._

–This Ayah reminds us that
1. Allah’sﷻ absolute authority and dominion.
2. The futility of fearing anyone or anything besides Allahﷻ.
3. The importance of devotion and loyalty to Allahﷻ Alone.
4. The need for trust and reliance on Allahﷻ Alone (tawakkul).

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and grant us the ability to develop Taqwa in all spheres of life. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 51

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 51_*

*_Allah has said: Do not take two gods [for worship], for He is but One God, so fear none but Me.(51)_*

This Ayah is a clear declaration of Allah’s unity and warning against polytheism.‼️ *Allahﷻ reminds us not to take two gods. Do not make a god other than Allah ﷻ*. _Allah ﷻ says *two gods’* because there are many religions that have two gods for example *the concept of dualism (two gods) is particularly found among the Parsis (Zoroastrians)*. They have Yazdan as their god of good and Ahrman as their god of evil. The struggle between the good and the evil in the world has been philosophically interpreted by them in this way that the god of good is separate and the god of evil is separate, as if there is a constant struggle between the two gods and man is unaccountably being hit in their crossfire. When these two gods have not stopped their fighting as yet, how can then man be free from fighting in the world? This concept brings to fore the weakness of both the gods, for neither of the gods is powerful enough to subdue the other one, and therefore, nothing then remains for man except disappointment. What a poor concept of god that can be found in a religion! Immaculate is He and above what they say, Exalted and Great!_

In this Ayah Allah ﷻ has said the word *ائنَينِ* which means *two*, while the word *إِلٰهَينِ* already means *two gods’* This is as an added affirmation, that is to never take a god other than Allahﷻ.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that Allah’sﷻ oneness must be a concept of complete and perfect clarity in the mind of every believer.‼️ *This has been a constant command of Allahﷻ and HEﷻ has preserved it completely in the Qur’an.*

_The belief of more than one god is false from every aspect, though any person may be believing in dualism, or any person in trinity or any person may have invented umpteen number of gods—all these inventions are the example of ignorance and folly._

–To understand that the number *two* that is mentioned in the Ayah is the next number after One and it is smallest therefore when taking a god besides Allahﷻ is prohibited then increasing their numbers is definitely foolish and against the fitrah of humans.

This Ayah serves as a reminder of:

1. The fundamental principle of Islam: worshiping only Allahﷻ.
2. The danger of associating partners with Allahﷻ(shirk).
3. The importance of devotion and loyalty to Allahﷻ alone.
4. Fear and reverence: Fear only Allahﷻ, the One God.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and save us from falling into the trap of shirk and bidah. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 50

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 50_*

*_They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.(50)_*

This is an *Ayat-e-sajdah*, on reciting which it is necessary to perform a sajdah.‼️ Having praised the Angels for their constant obedience and submission to HIM, HEﷻ then praises them for their fear of HIS Might and HIS Being for HEﷻ Who is above them in terms of HIS essence, might and perfect attributes, and they are beneath HIM, so they are humble and subjugated. *Four attributes of the angels have been mentioned.* First: that they prostrate themselves before Allahﷻ alone. Second: They do not brag and are not proud, and do not transgress. Third: They fear their Lord, with this conviction that He is ever present above them. And fourth: That they are obedient and they do whatever they are bidden by HIM to do. Hence the disbelievers of Makkah who wrongly used to consider Angels as Allah’sﷻ daughters are clarified that they are also subject to HIS laws and authority and they do prostate to HIM in obedience.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that nothing of Allahﷻ creation can escape HIS power, all are subject to HIS control.‼️ *The fear of the Angels is because they know HIS magnanimous position and splendor and they are weak creatures under HIS authority.* When the Angels are submitting then how can a person think of not submitting to the laws of Allahﷻ . With this explanation, it is hoped that a disbeliever can end his denial and return to their original nature, namely submitting under the authority of Allahﷻ and believing in the truth of the revelations revealed to HIS chosen servant, namely Muhammad Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam.

–Let’s understand the relationship between fear and obedience and make a progress in spiritual growth to attain HIS nearness.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to remain obedient to HIS commands and save us from the trap of shaitan and going astray. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 49

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 49_*

*_To Allah prostrates all that is in the heavens and every living creature on earth, as do the angels, and they are not arrogant.(49)_*

This Ayah is a powerful description of universal submission to Allahﷻ‼️ That is Everything in the heavens and the earth prostrates to Allah ﷻ including all those whom people have been regarding as gods and goddesses, and considering to be closely related to Allahﷻ are subservient to HIM, and have no share whatsoever in HIS Godhead. The reality of every living thing prostrating itself before Allahﷻ is being intimated, that is it bows down before HIM and whatever form of bowing down that Allahﷻ has fixed for a particular kind of creature it bows down in that form. The angels also prostrate before the magnanimity of Allahﷻ and worship Him. The Qur’an mentions the angels apart from other beings so as to glorify their position and they never show any arrogance and they are always humble and they do not disdain to worship HIM, despite their large numbers and their great size and power.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand Allah’sﷻ absolute authority and dominion and the importance of humility and surrender.‼️ *It is highly inspiring scene, provided that we open our hearts, alert our senses and respond to what goes on in the universe around us.* _The Qur’ān expresses the notion of submission to Allah’sﷻ laws by prostration. This is indeed the most expressive aspect of submission._

–The term *Dabbah* denotes any sentient, corporeal being capable of spontaneous movement, and is contrasted here with the non-corporeal, spiritual beings designated as angels.” *Here it is being reminded to man.* _Oh man, they continue their purpose of existence without objection. You, as a being with will, are superior to them, you are different. Because you have will._ *They are subjected to static fate. You are subjected to dynamic fate as you have will to decide right and wrong.* If they have a purpose of existence, Oh man, you must have a purpose of existence too.

–Let’s constantly remind ourselves the purpose of our creation which is nothing but submission in toto to HIS will and commands.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la make it easy for all of us to abide by HIS commands and gain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 48

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 48_*

*_”Have they not considered what Allah has created? Their shadows incline to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah, while they are humble?”(48)_*

_Allah SWT is explaining, The fact that everything – A man, An animal, A tree or A mountain-casts its shadow, *is a clear proof of its material nature, and everything which is made of matter, is a creation of Allah Azzawajal and is also subject to a Universal Natural System/Law (UNS).* In this case the Universal Law is that every material thing casts its shadow, which is symbolical of its servitude, and it cannot have any share whatsoever in Godhead._

_*”Not only all things on the earth alone but also all things in the heavens, including all those whom people have been regarding as gods and goddesses, and considering to be closely related to AIlah Azzawajal are subservient to HIM, and have no share whatsoever in HIS Godhead.”* Incidentally, it implies the existence of living creatures not only on the earth but in the planets, too. (Read S16:A49 also)_

*_Act for the Day is:_*  _To observe the Shadows of inanimate things and understand the metaphor which recognises Allah SWT and humbly worshipping HIM._
_Even their shadows turn around from right to left according to the light from above, and, they humbly prostrate themselves on the ground to celebrate the praises of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la._

_The shadows suggest how all things in this life are mere shadows of the true Reality in heaven; and they should turn and move in accordance with the divine light, as the shadows of trees and buildings move in one direction or another, and lengthen or shorten according to the light from heaven._

_*”Everything in Nature proclaims Allah’s Glory and humbly serves the Lord Supreme”, so we shall do so also Continuously/Consistently.*_

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to submit to HIM in toto and gain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Nahl – Ayah 45, 46 & 47

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayat 45, 46 & 47_*

*_Do then those who devise evil plots feel sure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them up, or that the punishment will not come upon them from a direction they do not expect?(45)_*

*_Or that He will not seize them suddenly in the midst of their comings and goings, and they can never escape it?(46)_*

*_Or that He will not seize them when they are apprehensive of the impending calamity? Verily your Lord is Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.(47)_*

After warning the disbelievers and persistent sinners about the punishment of the Hereafter, Allahﷻ warns them of the possibility that they can be caught in the punishment from HIM right here in this world much before the punishment of the Hereafter.‼️Allahﷻ mentions four different types of punishments. The punishment may come upon them from above, or from beneath them, as in the case of a landslide and the like, or it may come upon them whilst they are going about their business and not thinking about it at all, or it may come upon them when they are apprehensive about the punishment. Also possible is yet another form of punishment when punishment may not come all of a sudden, *but a general and gradual decrease sets in (Takhawwuf تَخَوُّفٍ)* causing wealth, health, fitness, means of sustenance and comfort and peace go on *shrinking* so much so that the day comes when the people so punished disappear from the face of the earth.

*_Act of the day is:_* to understand that Allahﷻ is Ar-Rauf and Ar-Rahim( Full of Kindness and Merciful).‼️The hint given is that all these punishments which overtake human beings in this world are there to warn them and take measures to correct themselves, these are a part of the dictates of HIS Divine mercy.

–Another aspect of HIS kindness and mercy is that *HEﷻ does not hasten the punishment for the sinners; rather HEﷻ gives them respite, grants them well-being and bestows provision upon them, whilst they offend HIM and HIS close friends.* _Yet despite that HEﷻ opens the gates of repentance to them, calls them to give up the bad deeds that harm them, and promises in return for that the best honours and forgiveness for what they have committed of sins. *So let the sinner feel ashamed before HIS Lord, for the blessings of Allahﷻ are descending upon him at all times whilst his sins are ascending to his Lord at all times.* Let him realise that Allahﷻ gives respite but HEﷻ does not let the sinner get away with it, for when HEﷻ seizes the sinner, HIS grasp is the grasp of One Who is Almighty, Omnipotent._

–Let us repent to Allahﷻ sincerely and turn back to HIM in all our affairs, for HEﷻ is Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. Let us hasten to seek HIS all-encompassing mercy and great kindness, and let us follow the paths that lead to the grace of the Most Merciful Lord, by fearing HIM and striving to do that which HEﷻ loves and is pleased with.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to always do the Good and gain HIS Kindness and Mercy. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 44

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 44_*

*_[We sent them] with clear proofs and written ordinances. And We revealed to you the message [i.e., the Qur’ān] that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought.(44)_*

The Ayah describes the responsibility of the Prophet ﷺ and the purpose of revelation.‼️ *This duty of making plain and explaining the teachings of the Book was to be performed by Prophetﷺ not only by word of mouth but also practically.* _It was required that he should organize, under his own guidance, a Muslim community and establish it in accordance with the principles of the Book. This duty of the Prophetﷺ has been stated here especially to show the wisdom of sending a man as a Messenger, for, otherwise the Book could have been sent through the angels or could have been printed and sent directly to each man._ *But in this way; that purpose for which Allahﷻ in HIS Wisdom and Bounty and Providence designed to send the Book could not have been served.* _For, that purpose demanded that the Book should be brought by a *perfect man,* who should present it piece by piece, explain its meaning, remove the difficulties and doubts, answer objections etc and above all, *he should show towards those who rejected and opposed it* that kind of attitude which is worthy of the bearer of this Book. On the other hand, *he should guide those who believed* in it in every aspect of life and set before them his own excellent pattern of life. Then *he should train them* individually and collectively on the principles of the Book; so as to make them a model society for the rest of mankind._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that the Prophetﷺ had been given the assignment of explaining the meaning of Ayat revealed to him before people in the most clearest way.‼️ _Herein lies an open proof that the correct understanding of the realities, insights and injunctions of the Qur’an depends on the statement of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammadﷺ. Therefore, the manner in which the Prophet ﷺ explained clearly the Ayat of the Qur’an, its teachings, and its commands and the way in which he opened its hidden wisdom are the most reliable explanation, interpretation and commentary (tafseer) of the Qur’an, and for us the means of knowing them are the *authentic ahadith (traditions).* Therefore for a better understanding of Qur’an we must try to read the seerah of the Prophetﷺ and the hadith as it is our duty as a ummah to live according to the injunctions of the Qur’an and explain it to all the humans.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to reflect, ponder and make it easy for us to understand the Qur’an. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 43

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 43_*

*_And We did not send (messengers) before you(O Muhammad) other than men whom We inspired with revelation. So, ask( you, O polytheists) the people (having the knowledge) of the Message, if you do not know.(43)_*

This Ayah gives a reply to the defiant Quraysh disbelievers who were objecting to the apostleship of Prophetﷺ.‼️ *They could not believe that Muhammadﷺ was a Prophet of Allahﷻ because he was a human being like them.* _Some of them said, Allah is too great to send a human being as a Messenger.’ Then Allahﷻ revealed this Ayah. These pagan Arabs were expecting the Messenger from Allahﷻ to be some angel or extraordinary creature. Allahﷻ states that HE did not send any messengers before the Prophet Muhammadﷺ except humans to whom HE gave revelation. Therefore, those who are worthy to be sent to carry out this task are messengers from their kind and speaking their language._ Hence Allah ﷻ asks them to enquire with *Ahl Adh-Dhikr (the people of knowledge)* which refers to the scholars of the Jews and Christians whether in their books there is information that Allahﷻ has ever sent angels to them as Messengers as these Mushrikin were to be satisfied only by the statement of non-Muslims because they themselves were not satisfied with what the Prophetﷺ was telling them. So, how could they accept the statement of other knowledgeable believers?

*_Act of the Day is_* to understand
1. The significance of seeking knowledge and understanding.
2. The importance of inquiry: Ask those with knowledge if you’re unsure.
3. The value of consulting with scholars and experts.
4. The need for humility and recognition of one’s limitations.
The Noble Prophet ﷺ said in this regard,

*_Indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking (because ignorance is like a disease)_*
(Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan Ibn Majah & Musnad Ahmad)

-The word *Ahl Adh-Dhikr (the people of knowledge)* are the people who have knowledge of the al-dhikr, and the intended meaning of al-dhikr is the Qur’an and Sunnah according to the understanding of the righteous predecessors. Those counted among the “People of Knowledge” are distinguished by knowledge of the Qur’an and hadeeth and following what the transmitted statements of the righteous indicate. _They have the *responsibility* of explaining the correct knowledge and clarifying to common people, while the task of the common people is to refer beck to the people of knowledge whatever is difficult for them to understand._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to to understand and gain proper knowledge of Deen and save us from getting mislead and going astray. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 42_*

*_[They are those] who patiently persevere and put their trust in their Lord.(42)_*

The Ayah describes the qualities of those believers which made them deserve the reward from Allahﷻ.‼️They were the believers who migrated for the cause of Allahﷻ and were patient with what happened to them, such as accepting the torture of the Quraysh infidels, enduring suffering because of their longing for the hometown they had left behind, and bearing the burden of life in a foreign land because of all the deprivations and being isolated from their families who were still in Makkah.

Allahﷻ mentions their nature as people who are patient and submit their affairs to HIM. _They patiently persevere in heeding the commands and prohibitions of Allahﷻ, and in accepting the decree of Allahﷻ, even if it is painful, and in bearing the harm and trials that they suffer in HIS cause and they put their trust in HIM that is, they rely on HIM in doing what HEﷻ loves; they do not rely on themselves._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that patience and trust in Allahﷻ are the prerequisites for success in all of our matters as a believer.‼️ *By these two qualities we can attain success and our affairs become sound.* _No one misses out on anything good except because of lack of patience and lack of effort in what is expected of him, or because of failing to put one’s trust in Allahﷻ and rely upon HIM._

This Ayah serves as a reminder of:

1. The need for resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges.
2. The importance of trusting Allah’sﷻ plan and timing and relying on Allah’sﷻ wisdom and mercy
3. The value of cultivating patience and trust in daily life.
4. The development of character and spiritual growth.
5. The role of patience and trust in overcoming adversity.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to develop these qualities so to become eligible to attain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Allahﷻ tells us about the reward of those who migrated for HIS sake, seeking HIS pleasure.‼️ *The initial batch of believers in Makkah were being persecuted in various ways by the idolaters, who were not prepared to allow freedom of conscience and religion to the Muslims.* _Having been compelled by brutal oppression and in order to preserve their faith a number of Muslims migrated to Ethiopia(Abyssinia)._ The first caravan comprised of fifteen persons, including four ladies. Subsequently their number reached to eighty-three. These were the people who migrated, leaving their homes, abandoning all property and belongings, sacrificing an easy life with their own peoples and communities. *They only sought Allah’sﷻ reward.* When they experienced tyranny and injustice, they left their homeland in order to live a life of obedience to Allahﷻ. _Hence, Allahﷻ promises them in return for the loss of their homes something that they will like._ Hence they were given *two rewards*: *1)Reward in this world* in the form of abundant provision and a life of ease that they saw with their own eyes, after they migrated, prevailed over their enemies, conquered new lands, acquired immense booty from them and became wealthy; Allahﷻ gave them good things in this world. *And the second Reward* will be much greater than the reward of this world and it is verily the reward of the hereafter which Allahﷻ has promised them on the lips of His Messengerﷺ.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that One of the commandments in Islam is to *migrate(Hijrah)* in the way of Allah Azzawajal in order to maintain religion, faith, and family safety.‼️ *A believer should not get lost in a cruel society or allow himself to be insulted and oppressed. He must fight the tyranny or leave the place to keep his faith.* As did the Prophetﷺ and the Muslims who migrated from Makkah to Madina. The Prophetﷺ and his companions were patient in facing various difficulties and problems, and relied on Allah SWT.

–Let’s understand several kinds of Hijrah:

(i) From the land of the unbelievers to the land of Islam; this becomes obligatory when it is not possible to follow Islam even in important affairs.

(ii) From the land of innovations (dar al-bid`ah). Imam Malik has written that it is not allowed to live in a place where pious scholars of the past are insulted following the rule that if you cannot remove wrongs, remove yourself from the wrongs.

(iii) From a place where the unlawful is overwhelmingly prevalent.

(iv) To escape persecution

(v) For reasons of health

(vi) To save one’s wealth – if it is threatened.

–Let’s remind ourselves about
1. Allah Azzawajal’s care and support for those who suffer for HIS sake.
2. The value of perseverance and trust in the face of adversity.
3. The ultimate reward and triumph of those who migrate for Allah Azzawajal’s cause.
4. The relationship between trials, trust, and triumph.
5. The importance of keeping the ultimate reward in mind amidst challenges.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and grant us HIS help in safeguarding our Imaan. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
