Surah Al Hijr – Ayah 87

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayah 87_*

*_”And certainly, We have given you seven of the oft-repeated (Ayah) and the Great Qur’an”.(87)_*

The Arabic term, *mathānī,* translated here as *‘the oft-repeated verses’* refers to the opening *sūrah, Al-Fātiĥah*, composed of seven short Ayat.‼️

_They sum up the whole teaching of the Qur’an. What can be more precious gift to Mankind than the glorious *Qur’an*_ _or any Surah of it?_

_This is the reassurance given to the Believers, as if to say, *”Why should you feel disheartened at the loss of material things? We have given you “Wealth” which surpasses all kinds of worldly riches. Therefore, your opponents should envy your knowledge and high morals; you need not envy their ill-canned wealth and their wicked enjoyments, for when they will go before their Lord, they themselves will find that they had not brought such wealth as carries any value there”.*_

_The seven verses (of Surah Al Fateha) form a complete unit by themselves, and are recited in every prayer and on many other occasions._

*_Act for the Day_* is : To understand that Prayer is the heart of Religion and Faith. Hence we shall pray with full understanding, focus and feelings on its wordings with understanding _*so as to Connect with our Creator.*_

_*Allah SWT taught us the best form of Prayer,*_ which sums up _*Our faith, Our hope, and Our inspiration in things that matter.*_

_In these seven verses;_
_*We think and Glorify Him in devotion of His name and His Nature;*_
_*We praise Him for His creation and His Cherishing care;*_
_*We call to mind the realities, seen and unseen;*_
_*We offer worship only to Him & ask only His guidance;*_
_*We ask for straight path from the crooked path By the light of His Grace that illuminates the righteous.*_

*_May Allah SWT accept our Prayers of every Salah. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen ._*

Surah Al Hijr – Ayah 85 & 86

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 85 & 86_*

*_We have not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except for a true purpose. And, verily, the Hour is surely coming, so [O Muhammad] bear with them graciously.(85)_*

*_Verily your Lord is the Creator of all, the All-Knowing.(86)_*

This fact mentioned here is to influence people into choosing the right course of submission to Allah‼️. _If they do, they only surrender to the One who has created the heavens and the earth. Needless to say, the one who creates is the one who owns, controls and determines the destiny of the heavens and the earth and all that lives in or on them. Moreover, this creation has been made *`in truth’.* This is to refuse all the conjectural theories advanced by philosophers._

Whenever He says, *‘Be,*’ it shall be. His power dominates all, and His will is unrestrained. He creates, changes and replaces as He pleases.❗This makes the proper formulation of the correct concept of faith in the believers’ hearts and it inspires those who are called upon to submit to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, the Creator of everything,

*_All sovereignty shall be His on the Day when the trumpet is blown._* When the trumpet is sounded, even the rejecters and the blind will begin to see and realise that all sovereignty belongs to Allah alone❗. *No one has any power other than Him. No will can operate other than His*. Hence, those who in this life refuse to submit to Him willingly are well advised to change their attitude before they have to submit to His absolute power on the day when the trumpet is blown.❗

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand this undeniable fact that _HE knows all that is beyond the reach of human perception(hidden), and all that is manifest. HE alone is truly wise, all-aware_‼️. Therefore whatever act a human does every intention will be known to Him and the reward will also be based upon the sincerity of intention.

To Understand that that the heavens and the earth have not been created just for the fun of it.❗ *This existence is not a theatrical play*. This world is not a child’s toy with which to amuse oneself as long as one wishes before crushing it to bits and throwing it away. *Creation is rather an act of great seriousness*. A great objective motivates it, and a wise purpose underlies it. Hence, after the lapse of a certain stage it is necessary for the Creator to take full account of the work that has been done and to use those results as the basis for the next stage.

–The Quran time and again asks believers to remain steadfast on the right path in spite of obstacles and conspiracies. Believers are asked to observe restraint when they do dawah work because while doing dawah they may face hostility from the non-believers. In such a situation, the Quran asks the believers to be patient and tolerant. In case of hostilities, though the believers are allowed to defend themselves or inflict an equal blow to the opponents, they are advised to be patient which is better.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la make our Imaan stronger and give us firmness upon our religion. Aameen Ya’Rabbul Aalameen._*

Surah Al Hijr – Ayah 82, 83 & 84

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 82, 83 & 84_*

*_They carved out dwellings in the mountains, feeling secure.(82)_*

*_So the blast overtook them in the morning.(83)_*

*_And of no avail to them was all that they had acquired.(84)_*

These Ayat describe a very quick move from the secure dwellings carved out in the mountains, to a blast that overwhelms them all, leaving nothing of what they earned, acquired or built.‼️ The people of Thamud were strong and mighty people. They carved the rocks to make their houses, so their city was called *“Al-Hijr city”* which means the city of the rock mountains. *No people feel more secure than those who hew their dwellings out of mountainous rocks. No community feels more at ease than early in the morning as the sun rises and sends its warming rays.* _But the people of Salih(AS) are overwhelmed by a blast at that very tranquil moment in their very secure dwellings. They lost everything. Nothing could protect them from the punishment of Allah Azzawajal._ *They were afflicted with a punishment of a loud thunderous sound that destroyed them all. The severe punishment came in the morning on the fourth day from the day that Salih(AS) had appointed for them to reflect.*

But they did not heed to it, so they were buried in their homes which were caves carved into the rocks. This condition of theirs is explained by Allah Azzawajal in Surah Hud

*_And the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook the wrongdoers, so they fell lifeless in their homes(11:67)_*

*_As if they had never lived there. Surely Thamûd denied their Lord, so away with Thamûd!(11:68)_*

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that no fortress is immune from the punishment of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la.‼️ _This shows us how Allah Azzawajal’s law is fulfilled, and how the people who reject HIS messages are destroyed when their time is over._ This all emphasizes the way Allah Azzawajal’s law operates, and HIS promises and warnings always come true.

–The people of Thamud could not avoid Allah Azzawajal’s punishment to the slightest of degree. Their physical strength couldn’t benefit them, their ability to carve mountains to make a house that looked like strong fortresses couldn’t protect them, as well as their wealth and their large numbers was of no use. Everything was destroyed with them in such a sudden manner, as if the land had never been inhabited by humans. This scene should touch our hearts violently and make an impact for change.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and take measures to improvise ourselves and gain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Hijr – Ayah 80 & 81

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayah 80 & 81_*

*_The people of al-Hijr also rejected the Messengers.(80)_*

*_We sent them Our signs, but they persisted in turning away from them.(81)_*

Here Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la tells us about the people of Al-Hijr, they were the people of Prophet Salih(AS) who lived in Al-Hijr, the homeland of Thamud the well-known rocky tract and that land lies in between Hijaz and Syria. Its ruins are still seen today, because they used to build their dwellings in the mountains, cutting space for themselves there.‼️ *The name of this surah comes from this Ayah.* Prophet Salih(AS) brought them signs to prove that what he was telling them was true, such as the she-camel which Allah Azzawajal created for them out of a solid rock in response to the supplication of Salih(AS). This she-camel was grazing on their lands, and the people and the camel took water on alternate days that were well-known and was decided upon, but these people rebelled and killed it, then Prophet Salih(AS) said to them
*_Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days. This is a promise which will not be belied.” (11:65)_*

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that the word *الْمُرْسَلِیْنَۙ Al-Murasaleen* has been used which means *Messengers* and it is in the plural even though they only denied one messenger i.e Prophet Saleh(AS), *because denying one messenger is the same as to deny all of Allah’s messengers.* All the messengers sent by Allah Azzawajal brought the religion of monotheism and the same religious principles.
The word *مُعْرِضِیْنَۙ ‘turning away’* in this Ayah indicates that they were not even ready to listen to the Ayat of Allah Azzawajal or to look at them. Even though they had received a clear sign, they still rejected the invitation to monotheism because they were a stubborn people. Perhaps the main reason they turned away from the warning of their Prophet was because of their luxurious life and high intelligence that they look lightly at the call of the Messenger of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to reflect and ponder and keep our hearts firm upon the Deen. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Al Hijr – 78 & 79

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 78 & 79_*

*_And the dwellers of the Wood were also wrongdoers.(78)_*

*_So We exacted retribution upon them. They are both on a well- known highway.(79)_*

*Aika”* means *thick trees.* Allah Azzawajal described them as the dwellers of the Wood. The region near Madiyan was full of trees with thick foliage, which was inhabited by the nation of Shuaib(AS). Therefore, that nation was called the ‘People of Aika and they were one of the two nations to whom Shuaib (AS) was sent, the other being Madyan.

_These people owned thick orchards and their economy largely depended on fruit production. They never showed gratitude to the blessings of Allah Azzawajal *When Allah (SWT) decided on their destruction, HE SWT sent upon them a scorching heat lasting for a week. Thereafter HE SWT sent a piece of cloud. They gathered under its shade. A fire came down from the cloud and they were all burned.* Hence the Qur’anic reference to the punishment elsewhere as (26: 189), “punishment of the day of Shade” (Ibn Jarir).

*_Act of the Day is:_* to learn from the end of those who showed arrogance to the advise of the prophets and persisted in disobedience.‼️ _It is a rule that Allah Azzawajal has established in human life that when truth and falsehood have adopted their respective stands and become clearly distinct, confronting each other on the basis of principle, then Allah Azzawajal’s law will come into operation. This was what took place with Shu`aib(AS) and his people._

— Both the lands of the people of Lut(AS) and of the dwellers of the Wood are on a well-known highway that is the place between Arab and Syria and it is on a clear highway on which travellers pass by them all the time, and their ruins can be seen; thus people of understanding learn a lesson from that. Life continues all around these towns which once flourished, but it now lies in ruin.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to take lessons from the Qur’an and save our Aakhirah. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 76 & 77_*

*_And it [the city] is on a road that is still travelled.(76)_*

*_Surely in that there is a sign for the believers.(77)_*

The habitations of the time of Prophet Lut (AS) which were over turned are located, as said by the Qur’an, on the Arabia-Syria route.‼️ This route was extensively used by the Quraish tribe for the purpose of doing trade. As Allah Azzawajal says in Surah Saffat
*_You ˹Meccans˺ certainly pass by their ruins day and night. Will you not then understand?(37:137 -138)_*

This site is still present in the proximity of Jordan in the form of a wilderness below the sea level. On a major portion, flows a particular kind of water like a river. Sea life cannot survive here. Therefore, it is called the *Dead Sea or the Sea of Lut(AS).*

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that the preservation of the monuments and relics of the past provide instructive lessons for the future generations .‼️ They contain good lessons for those who wish to learn from the end that befell earlier communities which defied and rejected Allah Azzawajal’s messengers. But such lessons are of benefit only to those who are prepared to learn from them. This is the reason why the Prophet SAWS, whenever he has passed by these sites, went through a particular emotional state under which he would be overwhelmed by the awe of Almighty Allah and which caused his blessed head to lower down and he would then try to make his mount hasten through these sites.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and reflect upon the reminders and strengthen our Imaan to stay away from HIS prohibitions and going astray. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_And We turned [their city] upside down and let loose upon them a shower of stones of baked clay.(74)_*

*_Surely in that there are signs for the discerning.(75)_*

The form of punishment that befell Lut’s(AS) people happened in *three stages* :

1)In the form of a thunderous and frightening thunder sound.

2) Overturning the city of Sodom, so that the layer of soil that was originally above was turned into the layer below;

3)Showering them with stones(Baked clay).

_It is Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la who does as HE wills, when HE SWT can shower beneficial rains HE SWT can also shower stones upon the defiant sinners._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to pay attention and draw lessons from the events described in the Qur’an.‼️ _The term *mutawassimun* denotes ‘one who applies his mind to the study of the outward appearance of a thing with a view to understanding its real nature and its inner characteristics._ In reality, these sites and the events associated with them are full of moral lessons for everyone having insight. But, it is the good fortune of believers only who would benefit by learning what these sites teach, while others would go through these sites as tourists and leave empty-handed.

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 72 & 73_*

*_By your life. [O Muhammad,] they were wandering blindly in their lustful frenzy.(72)_*

*_So the blast overtook them at sunrise,(73)_*

Even after much persuation from Prophet Lut(AS) the frenzied and perverted people didn’t relent to the advise of their Prophet.‼️ Hence Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la by giving honour to the purity of life our Noble Prophet SAWS swears by the Prophet’s life about the depth of intoxication of those people had in their perverted lusts and desires which didn’t yield any results. If they had any good sense left in them they would have felt ashamed and returned from the Prophet Lut’s(AS) house after his advise. But, they were remained unaffected by that and they became more rude and tried to violate and tried to get Lut’s(AS) guests to satisfy their perverted desire.
*Hence their evil had reached its climax and there was no good left in them. It was time of their end.* Allah Azzawajal finally sent down HIS punishment on the people of Prophet Lut(AS) with a loud thunderous sound that caused a great earthquake.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that Sin can make people addicted and pollute human reason. Sinful acts can distort humans so that they see everything upside down and justify their wrongs into right.❗

— Divine punishment does not only occur on the Day of Judgment and people who commit sins can suffer from Divine punishment in this world too.❗

— To understand that Allah Taa’la Himself, swears by different things HE has created.❗This is particular to HIM. Its purpose is to state the sublimity and beneficence of something from the desired angle. *But as far as we humans are concerned to swear by anyone or anything, other than the names and attrib- utes of Allah Azzawajal is not permissible because one would only swear by whoever is held in the highest of esteem and, as obvious, Allah SWT alone can be the highest.*
According to Hadith, the Prophet SAWS said: _Do not swear by your mothers, fathers and idols. And do not swear by anyone except Allah and if you have to swear by Allah, do it only when you are truthful in your statement. (Reported by Abu Dawud and An-Nasa’i from Abu Hurairah RA)_

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to remain obedient to HIS commands and take lessons from the previous nations. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 70 & 71_*

*_They said: Did we not forbid you to offer hospitality to anyone?(70)_*

*_Loot said: Here are my daughters [to marry], if you must. .(71)_*

Even after Prophet Lut(AS) tried to awaken them from their perverted nature, it had no effect on them. Rather they started to blame Prophet Lut(AS) for entertaining any man as a guest, as if he is the offender by offering them the temptation.‼️ *Lut(AS) continues with his attempts, pointing out the proper line of desire, i.e. marriage with the other sex.* _It is women who hold natural attraction for men to satisfy their sexual urge, so that procreation continues and human life is preserved._ *Prophet Lut(AS) even offered them his own daughters and the daughters of his community in marriage to them.* He simply reminds the menfolk of the natural way to satisfy their urge. He knew that if they responded to his appeal they would not be adulterous. Hence, his offer sought recourse to their human nature, if only it would respond. But that was unlikely.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that When the society is corrupt, whether they commit crimes or sins, they usually feel that they are right and demand that pious people obey their wishes and oblige.‼️

–To learn from the ways of Prophet Lut(AS), as he tried to persuade the perverted people to shun their immoral practices and adopt
rightful ways in life that has sanction from Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la.
1) *To prevent people from doing what is forbidden,* we must at first open up and show the true path to them so that they do not seek pleasure by committing sins. Prophet Lut(AS) tried to make them realise that *Marriage* is the sole and only correct context for sexual gratification, other methods are unclean and sinful.
2) Prophet Lut(AS) tried to appeal their inner self to know that Homosexuality has been forbidden, considered abominable, and has been rejected in previous scriptures and is incompatible with one’s manliness, development and chastity.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and grant us the ability enjoin the good and forbid the evil. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

When the people of Lut(AS), heard that he had in his home some handsome guests, they were overjoyed. Their evil desires arose to commit homosexual acts with the guests, which was a such a immoral habit they always did.

_Seeing the behavior of his people, Lut(AS) said to them, “Indeed, the young men you come and invite to commit lewd acts are my guests._

_I have to respect and honor my guests, don’t do lewd things with them, because your actions will bring shame to me. Fear Allah Azzawajal, protect yourselves from HIS torment, and do not henious acts with them.”_

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that *Shame* is a natural part of every human being. *When they lose their shame, they are willing to do anything*. The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam is said to curse those who have no shame.❗
From Abu Mas’ud, ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amr Al Anshari Al Badri, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: _”Indeed, among the expressions that people know from the previous prophetic sayings is: “If you are not ashamed, do all you can.” [Sahih Bukhari no: 6120)_

—The entire population of the town had degenerated morally. *The pity is that there had remained not a single person among them to make a protest against such a heinous sin.* _Moreover, this shows that all of them, as a community, had totally lost every sense of decency, and they felt no shame at all to make such a wicked demand on him openly. The very fact, that they felt no hesitation in making such a wicked demand brazen facedly from a pious and holy man like Prophet Lut(AS), shows that the heinous crime was so common among them that they would not spare anyone._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and grant us the ability enjoin the good and forbid the evil. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
