Surah An Nahl – Ayah 115

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 115_*

*_He has only forbidden you the meat of animals found dead, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any name has been invoked other than that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then verily Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.(115)_*

The Ayah now defines what is forbidden, listing the prohibitions in detail.‼️ *Allah Azzawajal has only forbidden things that are harmful, so as to protect us from harm.* That includes things such as the following: 1) *The meat of animals found dead*, which includes everything that died without being slaughtered in the prescribed manner; exempted from that are locusts and fish. •
2) *The blood*- this refers to blood that has been poured forth (at the time of slaughter); as for that which remains in the veins and flesh, it does not matter.
3) *The flesh of swine* because it is filthy and impure. That includes the flesh, fat and all parts of the pig.
4)And that on which any *name has been invoked other than that of Allah Azzawajal* such as that which is slaughtered for idols, graves and the like, because the intention behind it is the ascription of partners to Allah *(shirk)*.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that these are forbidden either because they are *physically harmful,* as in the case of dead animals, blood and pig meat, or because they are outrageous to faith *(Spiritually impure)* or to mental well-being as when invoking a creature’s name at the time of slaughter.‼️

—To understand that the faith of Islam has been made easy, involving no affliction. _If someone fears to die or becomes ill as a result of hunger and thirst, he may eat something of these forbidden items._ The important thing is that one *must neither transgress the principle of prohibition, nor exceed the limits of necessity* that override the prohibition in order to permit what is normally restricted. *Islam never reaches a dead end.* In emergency situations, the restrictions are partially lifted and the sins are forgiven.

— _To understand that the philosophy of forbidding some foods is not limited to health issues, but to keeping away from impurities such as shirk and this is the main benchmark for divine forbiddance. This means that a Muslim in terms of eating must also be on the path of monotheism._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to honour and abide the limits set by Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la and save us from falling into haram and shirk. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 114

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 114_*

*_So eat of that which Allah has provided for you, lawful and good, and be grateful for the blessings of Allah, if it is Him you worship.(114)_*

Allahﷻ is addressing the Makkan unbelievers, who were at that time passing through a phase of hunger and fear, that they could instead believe in HIM and HIS Messenger and “eat of what HEﷻ has provided them lawful and good”.‼️ *Here the observation of the lawful and the unlawful has been made the test of worship of Allahﷻ.* Those who claim to be the servants of Allahﷻ will eat what is lawful and pure and show gratitude to HIM and will scrupulously refrain from what is forbidden and impure. The polytheists used to claim to be Allah’sﷻ worshippers in spite of their idolatry, therefore, they were told that if they were really worshippers of a Single God, it was necessary for them that they should eat only the food provided by HIM which is clean and declared lawful by HIM, and should not indulge in declaring such food as forbidden under the influence of polytheistic superstitions. It is also the demand of Allah’sﷻ worship that for the favours and blessing bestowed by HIM, HE SWT should be thanked, and sacrificing animals in other than Allah’sﷻ name, offering gifts as a token of devotion to others (than Allahﷻ) be given up, as they are equivalent to worshipping other than Allahﷻ and are contradictory to worshipping the One and Only God.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand and keep reminding ourselves that all the sustenance is from Allahﷻ as HE SWT is the one who provides food (رَزَقَكُمُ اللَهُ).‼️ *Allahﷻ tells us to eat halal food because halal and good food has a great influence on the soul; it makes the soul calm.* _Good food will give us health, so that our life is more meaningful. When we are healthy and energetic we can perform more acts of worship._

–Food spread on the face of the earth from animals and plants is a great blessing from Allahﷻ. Humans should be grateful for it by saying *”Alhamdulillah”* and utilising it according to the guidance of Allahﷻ and HIS Messenger, such as eating it or trading it. *What is more important for us to know is how to be grateful?* Is it just by saying Alhamdulillah? *That is not enough because the true act of gratitude is to obey the commands of Allah ﷻ and abandon HIS prohibitions. Only then is it being truly grateful.*

— _Included in the meaning of gratitude is maintaining and developing food sources so that they do not become extinct from the surface of the earth and to meet the nutritional needs of mankind. In maintaining and developing animals or plants, Muslims should submit to the applicable laws of Allahﷻ, for example regarding the provisions of zakat and its social function._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la increase our provision and grant us the ability to remain always grateful to HIM through our Obedience and staying away from HIS prohibitions. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 113

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 113_*

*_There came to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they rejected him, so the punishment overtook them in the midst of their evildoing.(113)_*

The Ayah describes the consequences of rejecting the Messenger of Allahﷺ.‼️ When the word *لَقَد Laqad* is used in the Ayah it describes that Allah Azzawajal wants to convey a important message to us. Allah ﷻ had raised a Messenger from among themselves, that is, among their own tribes. What is meant is Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. But they denied him. When the Prophet ﷺ was appointed as a Messenger which was infact a great honour to them and it was quiet easy for them to understand and follow him as he was in their midst whom they knew to always tell the truth and to be exemplary in his honesty. These people could find nothing wrong with his character. It was Allahﷻ who sent him as HIS Messenger, bringing mercy to them and to all mankind, preaching the same faith as that of Ibrahim(AS), who built the Inviolable House of worship which ensured their security and prosperity As Allahﷻ says
*_Allah has certainly conferred a great favor upon the believers in that He sent among them a Messenger from among themselves._*
( Ali Imran: 164)

But they were quick to reject his message, levelling at him all sorts of false accusations, and subjecting him and his followers to persecution.

The polytheists of Makkah were not spared from Allah Azzawajal’s punishment due to their actions of being hostile to the Prophet Muhammad SAWS, like the people of the past. They experienced suffering and misery due to years of hunger. They suffered from a famine that wiped out their wealth, so they were forced to eat camel skins, dogs, carcasses and burnt bones.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that human rejection of the Messenger can happen in two ways: the first way is to clearly reject him by denying his authenticity. This is what the Makkan polytheists did. They opposed, cursed, slandered and mocked him. *But there is another way, that is by way of actions, such as ignoring the teachings of the Messengerﷺ.* This is what our society does a lot.‼️ The Prophet’sﷺ teachings are not followed, his Sunnah is ignored. On the other hand, his teachings were supplemented with new beliefs and practices called Bidah. This is also a way of rejecting the Prophet ﷺ but many people are not aware of this.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to honour the Prophetﷺ by adhering to his teachings and his practices and save us from HIS wrath and punishments. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 112

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 112_*

*_Allah presents an example: that of a city which was safe and peaceful, with its provision coming to it in abundance from all directions. Yet it was ungrateful for the blessings of Allah, so Allah caused it to taste extreme hunger and fear, because of what they used to do.(112)_*

The Ayah portrays the situation of Makkah and its pagan people who denied the blessings Allah Azzawajal had bestowed on them.‼️ *The example serves to make clear what destiny awaits them if they persist in their attitude of ingratitude and disobedience.* _This city is Makkah, which is safe and peaceful; and no one therein is to be disturbed. The people of the jahiliyah venerated it to such an extent that one of them might find the murderer of his father and his brother there, but he would not disturb him despite the intense tribal feelings that existed among them and the Arab sense of pride._ *Thus it attained complete security in a way that was never achieved by any other city. It was also granted abundant provision.* _Although it was a land in which there were no cornfields and no trees, Allah Azzawajal sent to it provision that came to it from everywhere either through pilgrims or trade caravans._ Nevertheless, ever since the days of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), they enjoyed a life of prosperity in addition to their security. Then a Messenger from among them came to them, whose honesty and sincerity they knew well, and he called them to the most perfect of attitudes and manners, and forbade to them all evil things. But they rejected him and were ungrateful for the blessing that Allah Azzawajal had bestowed upon them, so Allah Azzawajal caused them to taste the opposite of what they had been enjoying.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the effects of ingratitude and disobedience which leads to loss of peace and provisions.‼️ _The word *Libas لِبَاسَ* has been used here to give an enhancing effects of the hunger and fear, making them a garment to be worn. The garment is not a thing to be tasted. But, the word has been used here with the force of a similie denoting something being wide spread and all enveloping._ *The suggestion being conveyed here is that fear and hunger were cast over them in a manner of a garment or dress which becomes an integral part of the body. This was how hunger and fear were released and set all over them.*

–To understand that
1. History has divine rules and sunnah that never change in the past, present and future. Therefore, humans must learn from the history of previous nations and always move on the path of Allah Azzawajal.

2. Denying Allah Azzawajal’s blessings will result in punishment in this world and result in the loss of those blessings.

3. Poverty and insecurity are the impact of society’s indifference to religious teachings.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to recognise the importance of adhering to that teachings and the practices of the Noble Prophet SAWS. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 111_*

*_”One Day when every soul Will come up pleading for itself, and every soul Will be fully compensated for what it did, and they will not be wronged”.(111)_*

_This is an Assurance/Warning that, When the reckoning comes (when every person will rise up pleading for himself), each soul will be paid in full for what he/she did (good or evil, belief or disbelief in the life of this world) and we will not be dealt un Justly. We will be standing on our own (Personal) Responsibility._

_No one else can help us there, except our deeds. Full justice will be done, and all the seemingly inequalities of this world will be redressed._

*Act for the Day is:* _To Look into our own Acts and plan to improve them in light of the above ayah/verse, where the questions will be based on OUR attitude, not about others,_ {He will ask us; “What did YOU do? Not what He/She (others) did?”}.

_We need to understand the DYNAMICS of our life, and the Governance of Allah SWT, Which is that: *”We shall strive in this life to Earn our own Aakhira”.* So let’s Earn some food for our own Soul by *’SERVING OTHERS’.*_
_The sustenance/rizq of this world is guaranteed by Allah SWT, but for the next life, He says; *”EARN IT YOURSELF”,* and He will pay us as per what we earned._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and use this life to maximise our good deeds and save oneself from humiliation and punishment. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 110

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 110_*

*_But verily your Lord – to those who migrated after persecution, then strove [in jihad] in Allah’s cause and patiently persevered – verily your Lord, after all that, will be Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,(110)_*

The Ayah gives those group of believers the good news of Allah Azzawajal’s forgiveness and an abundance of HIS grace for migrating to other land to preserve their faith and patiently persevered in HIS cause by striving with all means.‼️ *These group of believers were willing to leave their hometown and all their possessions to keep their faith.* _For them, faith and Islam are more important than worldly rewards and pleasures. After they experienced the trials and suffering, Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la forgave their mistakes they made under the threat of torture such as saying words of blasphemy. Allah SWT gives HIS mercy and love by giving them a great reward in the hereafter._

When the persecution was beyond limits in Makkah, These believers had to leave Makkah to save their faith. Initially they migrated to Habasha twice, and then migrated to Medina. Allah ﷻ praises them for their patience in bearing the trials and tribulations. Because even while going out of Makkah was also dangerous because they were constantly being tracked and monitored by the Makkan polytheists; and they went to a place that was not their hometown, not knowing what their fate will be there later. Hence they deserved this praise and reward from Allah Azzawajal.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that the conditions for obtaining mercy and forgiveness from Allah SWT are patience, commitment to religion, struggling in HIS path and resisting to save Imaan.‼️ When we find it difficult to maintain our faith in one place, then we must migrate to another place. This law negates the reasons of people who claim to be forced to leave their religious duties due to circumstances.

This Ayah reminds us:

1. To stand firm in faith.
2. To persevere through trials.
3. To strive in Allah Azzawajal’s cause.
4. To seek Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la’s forgiveness and mercy.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to stand firm upon religion at times of trials and make it easy for us to bear with patience. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 108 & 109

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayat 108 & 109_*

*_These are the ones whose hearts, hearing and sight Allah has sealed up; it is they who are heedless.(108)_*

*_Without a doubt, in the hereafter, it is they who will be the greatest losers..(109)_*

The Ayah tells us of the abhorrent state of those who disbelieve in Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la after having believed, and thus become blind after having seen, and go back to misguidance after having been guided, opening their hearts to disbelief, happy and remain content with it.‼️ When they made up their minds, Allah Azzawajal allowed that they act, in words and deeds, in accordance with their intentions. When HE SWT allowed them to act, and they had acted, in words and deeds, as they had wished, then, in consequence of this second wrong (first being their evil intention), they were barred from receiving any guidance. Subsequently, as they continued in their disbelief, totally blind to the call of reason and the truth that dawned upon them from time to time, Allah SWT set a seal upon their senses. So, although materially well off now, they will be total failures in the Hereafter.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that the people who apostatise are truly at a greater loss in the hereafter because they have tarnished their own souls and plunged themselves into the abyss of hellfire.‼️ They do not realise that the main capital for living in the world is life. If that capital is not used for the gaining good deeds, of course it will be wasted in vain .

They get the following things for choosing error over guidance 1)The wrath of Allah Azzawajal.
2) Not receiving Allah’s guidance in this world.
3).Painful torture in the hereafter.

Their hearts, hearing, and vision are closed.
On the Day of Resurrection, they will be at a loss.
They lose the worldly pleasures that they pursue by devoting their energy and spending their lives. In the afterlife they get nothing but suffering. Allah Azzawajal sealed their hearts and ears as a consequence of their decision to reject the fundamentals of faith, of their deliberate choice of a path divergent from that charted out by the Qur’an.
_To understand that “Undoubtedly, all of our actions, words, thoughts and intentions are referred to Allah”. Therefore when we get the penalty of our deliberate sin, and our senses become impervious to good, and the penalty is referred to the justice of Allah Azzawajal._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan and save us from deviations and sin. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 107

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 107_*

*_That is because they prefer the life of this world to the hereafter, and because Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.(107)_*

The Ayah describes the reason of one more group of people for reverting to disbelief after having known the true faith and experiencing it’s blessings.‼️ Such a person only reverts to unbelief because *he prefers the comforts and pleasures of this world to the happiness of the life to come.* Allah Azzawajal will not give taufik to those who disobey his Ayat and those who have deliberately removed the readiness of their souls to accept the good and exchange it for sin and evil.

*_Act of the Day is:_* attaching oneself too much to the material world and giving preference to it over the Hereafter paves the ground for not receiving true guidance which leads to one’s loss of faith and one’s entanglement with the Divine punishment.‼️ *The important point here is that faith must never be subject to bargaining or to a balance of profit and loss.* When a person’s heart and mind submit to faith, they do not admit any worldly influence. *This world has its values and considerations, while faith has its own. The two sets cannot overlap or have anything in common.* Imaan must not be treated in a trifling way. It is not a bargain that a person makes one day and reverses the next. It is far more precious and needs to be preserved and nurtured regularly by attaching oneself to the commands of Allah Azzawajal and the practices of the Noble Prophet SAWS constantly.

–This Ayah reminds us:

1. To prioritise the hereafter.
2. To recognise worldly life’s limitations.
3. To seek Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la’s guidance.
4. To avoid disbelievers’ tendencies.

*_Let’s make this Dua a constant in our daily routine_*

*_O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion (Yā Muqallibal-qulūb, thabbit qalbī `alā dīnik). Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 106

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl, Ayah 106_*

*_”Whoever disbelievs in Allah after his belief, except one who is forced while his heart is content with faith. But those who open their breasts to disbelief, then upon them is wrath of Allah, and for them is a punishment great.”(106)_*

_This verse deals with the case of those Muslims who were being persecuted with cruelty and were being-subjected to unbearable torments to force them to give up their Faith. They are being told that if at any time they are forced to utter words of disbelief to save their lives, when in fact in their hearts they are secure against disbelief, they will be pardoned. On the other hand, if they accepted unbelief from the core of their hearts, they shall not escape the torment of Allah even if they succeed in saving their lives._

_There was an exceptional instance, like that of *Ammar bin Yasir (May Allah be pleased with him)* whose parents were mercilessly butchered before his eyes. After this he himself was put to such unbearable torture that, in order to save his life, he had to utter the same words of unbelief that were demanded of him. Afterwards when he came crying to the *Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),* he said, “O Messenger of Allah, they did not let me go until I spoke evil of you and praised their deities”. The Holy Prophet asked him, “How do you feel about this, in your heart?” He replied humbly, “My heart is fully convinced of the Faith.” At this the Holy Prophet replied, *”If they put you to the same torture again, you may utter the same words”.*_

*Act for the Day is:* _To understand that, it does not, however, mean that one should utter words of disbelief to save one’s life. *This is merely a permission but not the ideal thing for a Believer.* According to this permission if one utters such a thing, he shall not be taken to account. *In fact, the ideal for a Believer is to utter words of truth in any case whether his body is cut into pieces.*_

_There are instances which show that during the period of the Holy Prophet some acted upon the ideal while others took advantage of the permission._
_There was *Khabbab bin Art (May Allah be pleased with him)* who was made to lie on embers of fire until the fire was extinguished by the melting of his fat, but he remained firm in his Faith._
_Then there was *Bilal Habashi (May Allah be pleased with him)* who was made to put on an armour and stand in the scorching heat. Then *he was dragged on the burning sand but he went on saying, “Allah is one.”*_

*_May Allah SWT protect all of us from such a situation, and make it easy for those who are facing such a test. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah An Nahl – Ayah 105

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 105_*

*_It is those who do not believe in Allah’s signs who fabricate falsehood; it is they who are the liars.(105)_*

The Ayah clearly declares those people who are involved in fabricating falsehood against the Qur’an and the Noble Prophetﷺ as liars.‼️ The Prophetﷺ does not forge any false thing rather he was the most honest person, perfect in knowledge and deeds, strong in conviction, and most trustworthy. Because of his honesty and cleanliness of soul, he was given the name Al-Amin (the honest person).

When Heraclius, the Roman King, asked Abu Sufyan رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ about the qualities possessed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, among other things Heraclius said, *_”Did you ever accuse him of being a liar before he informed his call?”_*

Abu Sufyan رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ replied, *”Never.”* Then Heraclius said, “It is not logical to think when he has not told a lie about people any time would tell lies about Allah ﷻ”.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that this Ayah brings the false rumour mongers, liars and disbelievers in the same line.‼️ *Lying is a cardinal sin which no believer perpetrates.* _The Prophetﷺ himself made it clear that a true believer could at times commit some sinful action, but a true believer would never deliberately tell a lie._

–This Ayah befits the Western scholars, writers and journalists, who float lies for their laymen, who blindly believe in them in such matters of high importance, while treating all else that they write, about worldly affairs, with extreme skepticism.

–This Ayah emphasizes:

1. Disbelievers’ tendency to fabricate lies.
2. Disbelievers’ corrupt nature.
3. Rejection of Allah’s signs leads to falsehood.
4. Liars’ identity: those who deny Allah’s signs.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la guide us upon the straight path and save us from falling into the sin of rumour mongering and lying. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
