Listen to Understand

DAY 20 : LISTEN TO UNDERSTAND.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى السَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ *

“Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].”
[Qaf 50:37]

We are so absorbed with our own preoccupations sometimes we don’t understand to listen, but to reply.

Hasty listening and replying would always result in inappropriate communication, which in turn plays a role in ruining some of the most beautiful relationships that we have.

It is most common when parents become old and people don’t feel the need to listen to what they are trying to say, which ends up breaking the bond. Disrespecting parents is considered to be one of the biggest sins in Islam and not listening properly is too menial to be one of the reasons for it. Similarly, we listen to others while having another tape running in our head.

We need to value and respect our fellow beings , young and the old alike. One best way to do so, is by listening not just by ears but with our hearts and minds open.

May Allah ﷻ genuinely grant us the hikmah(wisdom) to understand better the beauty of soulful conversations and helpful interactions, اللهم آمين.
