Surah Al Hijr – Ayah 52 & 53

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Al-Hijr Ayat 52 & 53_*

*_When they came to him and said: Peace. He said: Truly we are afraid of you.(52)_*

*_They said: Do not be afraid; we bring you glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge.(53)_*

The angels came to Prophet Ibrahim(AS) in human form and greeted the Prophet Ibrahim(AS) with greetings of *peace( سَلٰمًا)* and he too responded the greetings with *سَلٰمٌ*.‼️ As a host he hastened to honour the guests by offering them a roasted calf.

When Prophet Ibrahim(AS) served the guests with roasted calf he noticed that the guests didn’t move their hands to start eating the food. He had a strange feeling as to the reason for the guests not touching the offered food. When the guests entered his home they had sent the greetings of Peace, but still they refused to eat. *A feeling of fear arose in his mind for the same.* _As per the ancient Arab traditions and customs if the guest refuses to accept the food served it indicates an evil intention. The angels disclosed to him their identity and allayed his worries and gave the good news that they will have a son who will be knowledgeable._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that it is a greatest blessings to have a righteous children.‼️ Prophet Ibrahim(AS) in his old age was given the glad tidings of children who are going to be prophets.

2) From here we can know that *angels* are also called *messengers.*❗

3) Greeting is a very great sunnah. A Hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Amr bin al-Ash RA who said: _A man asked the Prophet SAWS: Which Islam is the best? The Prophet SAWS said: “You feed, greet people you know and those you do not know”.(Bukhari)_
However, the response to the greeting must be more than the greeting given or at least equal to the greeting given. This is mentioned in Surah Nisa’:86, Allah Azzawajal says *_And when you are greeted, respond with a better greeting or at least similarly. Surely Allah is a ˹vigilant˺ Reckoner of all things.(4:86)_*

4) Receiving guests and offering hospitality to them is a part of the essential etiquette of Islam, in fact, a hallmark of high morals❗. *The host should, soon after the arrival of the guest, bring out something to eat, or drink, something he has on hand and which could be offered quickly and conveniently.* From [Abu Hurairah] from the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu Alahi wa Sallam he said: *_”Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good words or remain silent.” And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest .” (Sahih Bukhari)_*

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to learn and abide by the etiquettes mentioned and earn HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
