Surah An Nahl – Ayah 120

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah An-Nahl Ayah 120_*

*_Ibraheem was indeed an exemplary leader, devoutly obedient to Allah, a monotheist, and he was not one of those who ascribed partners to Allah.(120)_*

بےشک ابراہیم (لوگوں کے) امام اور خدا کے فرمانبردار تھے۔ جو ایک طرف کے ہو رہے تھے اور مشرکوں میں سے نہ تھے.(120)

Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la now the reminds the disbelievers of Makkah about the exemplary characters of Prophet Ibrahim(AS) whom they claimed to follow.‼️ Prophet Ibrahim(AS) is described as a perfect follower of Allah Azzawajal’s guidance, obedient to HIS commands and was always grateful to HIM. The Arabic term describing him here, *ummah, means a ‘nation’ or a ‘leader’*. Thus the Ayah may be taken to mean that Ibrahim(AS) was equal to a whole nation in his faith and true obedience. He was infact a leader to be followed in all goodly matters. _*Since he never associated partners with Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la,* those who are doing like the pagan Quraysh are being admonished not claim any relationship with him, because there is no such affinity of theirs in terms of his pure and noble practices._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to ponder upon the
unique and distinctive characters of Prophet Ibrahim(AS) as he rose up as an ideal monotheist, who gave the lesson of tawheed to the world.‼️ *Therefore, he is the Imam of the monotheists and not of the polytheists, and if the pagans really wanted to be his followers, then they should adopt the path of monotheism and shun polytheism.*

—To pay attention to the word 1) *Qanit قانِتًا* which means a person who is constantly submissive and obedient
2) *Hanif حَنيفًا*. It means an upright person, and the one who is dedicated to Allah Azzawajal and he turns only towards Allah Azzawajal with his heart and not towards anyone else.”

This Ayah reminds us:

1. To emulate Ibrahim’s(AS) character.
2. To prioritise Tawheed.
3. To shun polytheism and shirk.
4. To cultivate gratitude

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to adopt the Noble characters of the Prophet Alahis salam and gain HIS love and pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
