Surah Ar-Rum Ayat 39 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (30 August 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[30].Surah Ar-Rum [The Romans]

Ayat 39. And that which you give in gift (to others), in order that it may increase (your wealth by expecting to get a better one in return) from other people’s property, has no increase with Allah, but that which you give in Zakat seeking Allah’s Countenance then those, they shall have manifold increase.

Tafseer of Surah Al Rum (The Romans) Ayat 39. That which ye lay out for increase through the property of (other) people, will have no increase with Allah. but that which ye lay out for charity, seeking the Countenance of Allah, (will increase): it is those who will get a recompense multiplied. Riba (literally ‘usury’ or ‘interest’) is prohibited, for the principle is that any profit which we should seek should be through our own exertions and at our own expense, not through exploiting other people or at their expense, however we may wrap up the process in the spacious phraseology of high finance or City jargon. But we are asked to go beyond this negative precept of avoiding what is wrong. We should show our active love for our neighborhood by spending our own substance or resources or the utilization of our own talents and opportunities in the service of those who need them. Then our reward or recompense will not be merely what we deserve. It will be multiplied to many times more than our strict account. According to Commentators this verse especially applies to those who give to others, whether gifts or services, in order to receive from them greater benefits in return. Such seemingly good acts are void of any merit and deserve no reward from Allah since He knows the real intention behind such ostensibly good deeds. Seeking the “Face” or “Countenance” of Allah, i.e., out of our pure love for the true vision of Allah’s own Self.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah   [SAWW]((PBUH) cursed the one who accepts Ar-Riba (the usury) and the one who pays it.

[Muslim].

The narration in At-Tirmidhi adds: And the one who records it, and the two persons who stand witness to it, The Messenger of Allah  (PBUH) cursed the both also.

Lesson : in Surah Al-Imran Ayat 130. O you who believe! Eat not Riba (usury) doubled and multiplied, but fear Allah that you may be successful” This Hadith highlights the importance of Law and regulation revealed by Allah [SWT], also intensity of unlawfulness of Ar-Riba, or what has come to be called nowadays interest which can be judged from the fact that not only the person who charges it and the one who pays it are cursed but even those who write the documents and bear witness to the transaction are condemned although the latter two have no active part in the deal. They have been condemned for their mere co-operation in the matter of interest. Thus, we learn that even cooperation in the deal in which interest is involved is an invitation to the Curse and Wrath of Allah. Both the parties, that is the one who charges interest and the one who pays it, are equally guilty in the matter of usury (or Riba). The reason for such severity in the matter of interest is that Islam wants to create a society which is founded on fraternity, sympathy, selflessness and sacrifice. If someone is in need of money, the rich should fulfill his needs for the sake of Allah’s Pleasure or give him a loan without interest. As against the Islamic system, this system of interest is based on selfishness, exploitation and suppression. In the interest-ridden societies, the affluent ones are not inclined to cooperate with the needy for the sake of Allah. All they are concerned with is their own interest. Their lust and greed are not reduced in the slightest measure even after draining the last drop of the blood of the poor. This is the reason why Shariah has forbidden interest of every kind and regarded it unlawful, no matter whether the loan is for the personal need or commercial requirements.
