Surah Ar-Rum Ayat 44 & 45 Daily Qur’an & Hadith (03 Sep 2023)

English Translation of Al-Quran

[30].Surah Ar-Rum [The Romans]

Ayat 44. Whosoever disbelieves will suffer from his disbelief, and whosoever does righteous good deeds (by practicing Islamic Monotheism), then such will prepare a good place (in Paradise) for themselves (and will be saved by Allah from His Torment).

Ayat 45. That He may reward those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous good deeds, out of His Bounty. Verily, He likes not the disbelievers.

Tafseer of Surah Al Rum (The Romans) Ayat 44 and 45. Those who reject Faith will suffer from that rejection: and those who work righteousness will spread their couch (of repose) for themselves (in heaven): 45. That He may reward those who believe and work righteous deeds, out of his Bounty. For He loves not those who reject Faith. Though the repose and bliss will have been won by the righteous by their own efforts, it must not be supposed that their own merits were equal to the reward they will earn. What they will get will be due to the infinite Grace and Bounty of Allah. In form this clause is (there as elsewhere) negative, but it has a positive meaning: Allah loves those who have faith and trust in Him, and will, out of His Grace and Bounty, reward them in abundant measure.

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Ibn Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah  [SAWW](PBUH) said, “Envy is permitted only in two cases: A man whom Allah gives wealth, and he disposes of it rightfully, and a man to whom Allah gives knowledge which he applies and teaches it.”

[Al-Bukhari Book 02, Chapter 24, Hadith # 490].

Lesson : Envy in the Hadith means “Ghibtah” the equivalent of which does not exist in English language. What it means is that you wish to enjoy things which others have, such as wealth and knowledge, without wishing that they should be deprived of them to your exclusive benefit. Envy is a corrosive disease of moral nature which snatches away man’s peace of mind. It means resentment at the condition of a man enjoying some Divine favor, and to wish it to be finished. It is forbidden because it wipes out one’s good deeds. But there is no harm in being enviable of somebody. It has some positive connotation in the sense that you admire Allah’s Blessing over a person and wish to be favored with it too. This Hadith interprets envy as a “Ghibtah” but not in the absolute sense because it is condemnable. This Hadith, however, points out in unambiguous terms the excellence of a rich man who not only spends the Gifts of Allah (SWT) on his own person but also allocates a portion of it to the poor and the needy as well as to the propagation of religion. It further throws light on the excellence of a man who is well-grounded in theological doctrine and suggests solutions to people’s problems in the light of the Qur’an and the Hadith and also imparts the religious knowledge to others. Everybody should aspire, apart from affluence, for an excessive fervor of spending in the way of Allah. Moreover, the quest of Islamic disciplines and their underlying rationale should remain at the center of his heart, so that he may inherit the legacy of the Prophets, doing full justice to it as well. None can do it but with the Blessing of Allah.
