Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 9

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 9_*

*_Have the stories not reached you of those who came before you – the people of Nooh, ‘Ad and Thamood, and those who came after them? No one knows them but Allah. Their Messengers came to them with clear signs, but they put their hands to their mouths and said: Indeed we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and indeed we are in grave doubt about that to which you are calling us.(9)_*

The Ayah addresses the disbelievers of Makkah directly reminding them of the lineage of Messengers sent by Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la to various nations to bring them on the straight path.‼️ _These nations who took to the road of ingratitude as against Allah Azzawajal’s blessings and went on opposing and disbelieving in face of the call of the Messengers with clear signs and evidence. As a consequence of their rejection they were subjected to the wrath and punishments of Allah Azzawajal. Although some have been preserved and many of these events are not preserved in the pages of history, but they are definitely known to Allah Azzawajal._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand the word *شَكٍّ Shakk= grave Doubt* used by the disbelievers towards the message of Allah Azzawajal. Their doubts about the truth of religion were based on blind opposition, not due to studying and researching it logically and we find such confrontations every day around us.‼️ *Thrusting hand into the mouth* is an idiom which means being enraged and expressing amazement. It shows their intolerance and perplexity and a bit of anger by the disbelievers towards the message. They were outspoken in their denial of the divine message.

–This Ayah gives an important *moral booster to the Da’ee* that such confrontations are not new and they have been going on for periods earlier. _This method of narrating a story or historical account is often employed in the Qur’ān. It serves to bring the historical account alive. We see here Allah Azzawajal’s noble messengers following one another, and confronting all mankind who had given in to jāhiliyyah. The gaps between generations and communities disappear, while the great truths stand out without being tied to a specific time or place._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to learn from the past generations and strengthen our resolve to move ahead on the path of Tauheed. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*
