Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 35

*_Today’s Thought for the day comes from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 35_*

*_”And when Ibrahim (A.S.) said,” My Lord! Make this city (Makkah) safe, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols”.(35)_*

_Allah SWT had bestowed His special bounties on the Quraish in particular. They have been asked to remember that, Prophet Abraham A.S., had settled their forefathers near the Ka’abah and made their city, *Makkah, a “City of Peace”* and AIlah showered His blessings on the Quraish in answer to the prayer of Prophet Abraham. They have been admonished to remember those “bounties” and mend their ways._ They had turned away from pure faith. The prayer was _’My Lord, make this a city of peace.’_ In the prayer which he made when Makkah was already a populated city, he made a definite reference to the city of Makkah saying: ‘My Lord, make this city peaceful.’ *Security and safety is so important for man*, for it is intertwined with his survival. The sūrah mentions this here so as to remind of it to the people of Makkah who enjoy it as if it was theirs by right, and who do not give thanks for it.
(2) The second prayer made by him was: *_’and keep me and my children away from worshiping idols.’_* Though, prophets on whom be peace are protected by Allah Azzawajal, so Shirk, idol-worship, or a sin cannot issue forth from them. But, in this prayer, Ibrahim AS has included himself as well. The reason for this is either that prophets too live under a constant fear of being in danger, or that his main purpose was to pray for the safety of his children against the danger of disbelief and idol-worship. *It was to impress his children with the gravity of the matter that he included himself too within the prayer*.

*_Act for the Day is:_* to pay attention to the way Prophet Ibrahim (AS) addresses Allah (SWT). He calls Him *Rabb*‼. *As this word has many meanings. But the foremost of these is Lord and Master*. This was the perception that Ibrahim (AS) had of the Divine. *This was the mindset that Ibrahim (AS) had was that of a slave.* _A slave in love with his Master. A slave desiring nothing but the Pleasure of his Master. The Nearness of his Master. At every moment of his life all that he desired was that nearness._ So he was always striving and trying to do something at each moment that would please Allah (SWT). Because he realized that he was not merely a worshipper of the Divine, or a servant of the Divine. Rather he was a slave. *And the job of a slave is truly a full time one. There is not a moment when he is free. At every moment he has to serve his Master. He has to please HIM.*

— _To read S14:A36 to A41 and also S2:A125 to A129, for detailed understanding of the prayer of Ibrahim A.S., and Glorify Allah SWT._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to understand our responsibilities as HIS true Slave and earn HIS pleasure and blessings. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 34

*_Today’s Thought for the day comes from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 34_*

*_”And He gives you all that you asked of Him. And if you count the favour of Allah, you will not be able to count them. Indeed, mankind is most unjust and ungrateful”.(34)_*

_”Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la fulfills all our requirements”; *He has provided for everything that is required for our life, its development and evolution.*_
_(To understand and realise that, behind all our strength, skills, and intelligence there is the power and goodness of Allah; read S14:A32-33)_

*_Act for the Day is:_* _To understand that *”Sincere and true prayer in faith is answered by Allah Azzawajal‼️.* Thus HE SWT gives us everything which a wise and benevolent Providence can give._ *If man ponders seriously, he cannot but admit that his Creator has blessed him with countless bounties, and there are his incalculable obligations.* _If he would contemplate over one morsel of his food, a sense of gratitude would rise in his heart considering what arrangements his Lord has made to prepare this one morsel of food for him. Heaven and earth, rains, winds and heat of the sun, etc., how has HE SWT made all these things helpful that the seed which had to pass through several stages became corn and the corn after passing through various stages became the morsel, which he is now comfortably eating. When it is not possible for man to count his own hair or the stars in the sky, then how can he count the favours and blessings of Allah?_

_*We shall try to get rid of our habitual ignorance of just values and ingratitude for the innumerable gifts and favors which Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la has showered on us, (mankind).*_

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to remain grateful to him through our obedience to HIS commands. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 32 & 33

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayat 32 & 33_*

*_It is Allah Who has created the heavens and the earth, and sent down water from the sky; and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. HE has made the ships to be of service to you so that they may sail on the sea by HIS command, and HE has also made the rivers to be of service to you.(32)_*

*_And HE has made the sun and moon to be of service to you, both constant in their courses, and HE has made the night and day to be of service to you.(33)_*

The Ayat describe the reason as to why each and every person should worship Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la Alone.‼️ *The Ayat describes the universe where every word speaks of Allah Azzawajal’s countless blessings.* _These extend beyond the furthest point our senses can reach. The universe is transformed into an exhibition of Allah’s signs where the magnificence of HIS hand excels so as to leave its distinct mark in every image, feature and shadow._ The great scene of Allah’s blessings that is presented here is painted with fascinating skill, drawing its lines in the same directions the different blessings take in relation to man. This is noticeable in the line of the heavens and the earth, followed by that of water pouring down from the skies and plants and fruits shooting up from the earth. We then have a line depicting the oceans with ships sailing on their surface and rivers flowing with much bounty. A new line takes us back to the skies to show us the sun and the moon, coupled with the line of the night and day, which is closely connected to the sun and moon but remains firm on earth.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to realise the great bounties and blessings which Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la has bestowed upon the mankind so as to sustain their life and needs on this planet by showing gratitude in the form of obedience to HIS commands and staying away from Shirk.‼️ The words *Sakh-khara-lakum سَخَّرَ لَـكُمُ* of the text have misled those people who have translated these into *“subjected to you”*. So much so that some of them interpret these Ayat to mean that the main aim of the life of man is to bring the earth and heavens under his subjection, whereas their real meaning is *_“the earth and heavens are subjected to certain laws and they serve you under these laws.”_* As a matter of fact Allah Azzawajal has subjected all these things to such laws as are beneficial for man. Had not a ship been subjected to certain physical laws, there could have been no navigation at all. Had not a river been subjected to certain laws, it could not have been possible to take out canals from them. *Therefore, those who feel proud of having invented, manufac- tured or produced things like that should better think twice and feel shy of ascribing all credit of such innovations to themselves.* Likewise if the heavenly bodies (the sun and the moon, etc.) and the earth and day and night had not been subjected to certain fixed laws, life could not have been possible, not to speak of civilized life.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to ponder and reflect upon HIS blessings and strengthen our Imaan and make us remain humble and grateful. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 31_*

*_Tell My slaves who believe that they should establish prayer and spend from that which We have provided for them, in secret and in public, before the day comes when there will be no bargaining and no friendship.(31)_*

Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la now turns towards the *believers ءامَنوا* and addresses them with love and closeness by using the word *عِبادِيَ (My servant)*.‼️ *This is a master prescription for those who pay heed to the warnings of Allah Azzawajal before it is too late so that they can avoid being at loss on the Day when they will not have any chance to bargain nor to seek any help from their own friends.* _Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la asks the believers to put their faith into practice by asking them to_
*1)* Establish Salah and
*2)* Spend (*Infaq*) part of the property that has been granted by HIM both secretly as well as openly.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that Establishing Salah and spending their wealth in HIS way is a form of expressing gratitude in contrast to the disbelievers who are ungrateful.‼️Allah Azzawajal orders the believers to establish Salah, because *Salah is the pillar of religion,* as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said

_”Salah is the pillar of religion, whoever establishes it, then he has indeed established religion and whoever abandons it, then indeed he has destroyed religion. (Narrated by al-Baihaqi from Umar bin al-Khathab)”_

*The first act of a servant that Allah Azzawajal will judge on the Day of Judgment is Salah.* The Messenger of Allah SAWS said:

_”The first thing for which a servant will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be prayer. If it is righteous, all his deeds will be righteous, and if it is corrupt, all his deeds will be corrupt.” (Narrated by Al-Tabarani on the authority of Anas bin Malik)_

— Allah Azzawajal also commands the believers to spend some of the wealth that HE SWT has bestowed upon them on others now so that their balance which is preserved for them increases through gains they make by charitable spending, before the Day of Judgment comes, that is, the day when all the doors of repentance have been closed, not a single sin can be redeemed, even if it is redeemed with all the gold of the earth. *_So today no ransom will be accepted from you or from the disbelievers. (Al-Hadid/57: 15)._*
Spending the wealth on others *both in secret and in public is commanded* as _Secret charity protects the dignity of the taker and enhances the virtue of the giver._ This ensures that charity does not become a source of pride and arrogance. Charitable spending in public serves to demonstrate obedience to Allah Azzawajal’s orders, and provides a good example to others in the community. Both ways are left to the discretion and sensitivities of every believer.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to abide by HIS commands and earn HIS pleasure and blessings. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 30

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 30_*

*_They set up rivals to Allah, to lead people astray from His path. Say [O Muhammad]: Take your pleasure now, for verily your journey’s end will be the fire.(30)_*

Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la issues a warning through His Messenger SAWS to those who mislead people from the path of Tawheed by setting up partners against HIM.‼️ *These people earned the wrath of Allah Azzawajal by exchanging HIS blessing of a Messenger sent to them with disbelief.* _The Messenger SAWS called on them to believe in Allah Azzawajal Alone and not to associate partners with HIM, but they abandoned all this._

1)They placed their false deities in a position equal to that of Allah Azzawajal, and offered worship to them as they would offer it to HIM.

2)They submitted to these false deities as they would submit to HIM, and

3)They attributed to them some of the attributes that belonged only and exclusively to Allah Azzawajal Alone. *Thus they lead people astray from the only straight path leading to Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la, the only deity in the universe.*_Hence the Prophet SAWS is told to make it clear to them that they may enjoy themselves in this life as they please, but that this enjoyment will last only for the limit HE SWT has determined. The eventual outcome is well known and their abode shall be in the put of Fire. As Allah Azzawajal said in another Ayah, *“We let them enjoy for a little while, then in the end We shall force them to (enter) a great torment.”(31:24)*_

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that faith based on Allah Azzawajal’s oneness represents a threat to the power and vested interests of tyrannical forces in every generation, not merely in this first period of jāhiliyyah when the Prophet SAWS preached his message.‼️ *Whenever people turn away from the pure faith based on Allah Azzawajal’s oneness, whatever shape this may take, and assign their leadership to others, they revert to a state of un-Islam, or jāhiliyyah.* _In such a state, people surrender their own freedom and personality, follow their desires and implement laws enacted on the basis of their leaders’ desires instead of deriving them from Allah Azzawajal’s revelations._ *In such a situation the advocacy of Allah Azzawajal’s oneness becomes a threat to those chiefs and their interests.* _Hence, they try to avert this threat in every way open to them. In older forms of jāhiliyyah, this took the shape of adopting false deities, claiming that they were equal to Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la. In our present time, it takes the form of implementing man-made laws that permit what Allah SWT has not permitted and prohibit what HE SWT has made lawful._

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the true understanding of the Deen and safeguard us from every form of Shirk and save us from going astray. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen_*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 28 & 29

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayat 28 & 29_*

*_Have you not seen those who have repaid Allah’s blessings with ingratitude, and caused their people to dwell in the abode of ruin,(28)_*

*_In hell? They will enter it, an evil place to settle in!(29)_*

Here Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la describes the situation of those among the disbelievers of Quraysh who rejected HIS Messenger SAWS and their ultimate abode.‼️ *The pagans and the disbelievers converted the great blessings of Allah Azzawajal into a matter of ingratitude.*

1)- They took the option of paganism instead of the blessing of monotheism.

2)- They abandoned the blessing of the clean and pure inherent nature and imitated their seduced ancestors.

3)- They preferred superstitions to the Divine revelation.

4)-These are people who have been granted Allah Azzawajal’s blessings in the form of a prophet sent to call on them to believe in HIM, and to lead them along the way to Allah’s forgiveness of their sins, and to a heavenly destiny. Yet they rejected his call and followed the despots.

*Thus by their singular exchange, they lead their communities to hell because they caused them to go astray, thus they were a cause of disaster for their own people when they thought that they were benefitting them.* _One aspect of that is that they made it fair-seeming to them to go out on the day of Badr to fight Allah and HIS Messenger (SAWS ), then the events of that day took their course and many of their leaders and prominent figures were killed in the battle.Just as we have seen in the histories of past nations and communities mentioned earlier in the sūrah, they land their people in hell. It is a vile and ignominious abode._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand and remain grateful for all the favours and blessings of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la by submitting to HIS commands and staying away from prohibitions.‼️ *This Ayah doesn’t limit itself to the pagans of the Makkah rather it serves a universal warning to all the people irrespective of time.* The blessings that Allah ﷻ mentions in this Ayah can be of two types, namely *worldly blessings* such as wealth, clothing, health and so on and can also be *spiritual blessings* such as the revelation of the Qur’an, the sending of HIS Messenger SAWS, guidance and so on. Because all those favors are from Allah ﷻ and when Allah ﷻ gives favors then we must use all those favors towards goodness. If we don’t take the opportunity, then we are the ones who are guilty and will be the losers.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to show gratitude by our obedient actions and save us from HIS wrath and displeasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 27

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 27_*

*_Allah will make steadfast those who believe, with the word that stands firm, in this world and in the hereafter. But Allah leaves the wrongdoers to go astray; Allah does whatever He wills.(27)_*

The Ayah describes the promise and help of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la for those who remain firm upon the Good Word(Kalimah Tayyabah) in this world and their success in the Hereafter and the fate of wrongdoers following Evil word(Kalimah Kabitha) will be left to go astray.‼️ *To those who believe in the word Tawheed, Allah Azzawajal will give them steadfastness when they are faced with specious arguments and doubts, by guiding them to certainty, and when they are tempted by desires, by bestowing upon them strong resolve whereby they will give precedence to that which Allah Azzawajal loves over their own whims and desires.* _This is called *Ribatal Qalbi (bond of the heart)* where their hearts do not waver anymore and remain on faith, no matter what happens. Their condition is that they not only mention it by tongue, but understand and practice it completely. This steadfastness is what we should long for and try to achieve. And at the end of life, at the moment of death, He will make them steadfast in their Islamic religion and give them a good end; in the grave, when they are questioned by the two angels, He will guide them to the correct answer._

On the otherside the wrongdoers are left to go astray from the straight path in this world and the hereafter because they wilfully rejected the call towards Tawheed, it is not Allah Azzawajal who wrongs them; rather they wrong themselves.

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that there is a *reciprocal relationship* between faith and good and firm speech. Faith encourages a person to always use good and firm speech. On the other hand, good speech can preserve the firmness of one’s faith.‼️ *Wrongdoing’* is often used in the Qur’ān as being synonymous with associating partners with Allah Azzawajal, since both are manifestations of injustice. *The greatest injustice is shirk. Such wrongdoers turn away from the light of divine guidance, and move aimlessly in a great maze of legend and superstition, following laws based on desire, and not on the proper guidance provided by God. As they do so, they are left to go astray. This happens in accordance with the law God has set in operation, which leads to error and confusion anyone who chooses to close his eyes to His guidance and follow his desire.

— To understand that Allah Azzawajal does whatever HE wills.”❗ HIS will is free. It chooses the law it sets in operation, but is not limited or restricted by it. Whenever Allah’s wisdom determines to change it, it is changed by HIS will which is free, unimpeded by anything, irresistible. Indeed, everything in the universe takes place in accordance with HIS will. Even though Allah ﷻ does what He wills, He never departs from the just and right path, He never does His will with injustice, it is only human who is always cruel to himself. We have to believe that Allah ﷻ has never been unjust and will never do injustice.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us strengthen our Imaan and grant us firmness upon Tauheed and make the path easy for us to gain HIS pleasure. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen._*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 26

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 26_*

*_But an evil word is like an evil tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth; it has no stability.(26)_*

The Ayah describes the disbelief of the disbeliever and is compared with evil tree and all that stems from it.‼️ The fruit of which is unpleasant to eat and has an unpleasant taste. *This refers to the colocynth and similar plants.* _This tree is not firm and it has no roots to hold it steady, and it does not produce any good fruit; rather if there is any fruit, it is foul and evil. *It is a type of tree that does not have strong roots.* It is a tree that sits on the ground and only grows on the surface of the earth. If the tree is like that, it really has no strength. When a strong wind blows, it can be uprooted easily. When it is lying on the surface of the ground it is easy for it to be contaminated with soil dirt. Such is the creed of the infidels who easily change because they are disturbed by the impurities of nature. It’s easy to pick up bad habits and morals from the outside world. *This is how the word of disbelief and sin is; it is not rooted in the heart in any beneficial way and it does not bear any fruit but evil words and evil deeds which cause harm to the individual and are of no benefit to him, so no righteous deed ascends from him to Allah Azzawajal and he does not benefit himself or anyone else*._

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that *Evil word (Kalimah khabitha) is the opposite of pure word whether it be polytheistic, atheistic, or talk of disbelief.*‼️ _It may be applied to everything that is unreal and wrong but here it stands for any false creed that one might adopt as a basis of his system of life, irrespective of whether it be atheism or heresy or disbelief or shirk or idol worship or any other ism that has not been brought by a Messenger._ It is a useless kalimah, which deprives man of righteous acts, it provides nothing but distress and disappointment in the Hereafter.

–Therefore the believers do not need to worry about the growth and power of infidels. Because falsehood will be destroyed and truth will remain eternal.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us clarity in our belief of Tauheed and save us from falling into evil thoughts, words and action. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen_*

*_Do you not see how Allah compares a good word to a good tree? Its root is firm and its branches reach to the sky.(24)_*

*_It yields its fruit at all times, by its Lord’s leave. Allah makes such comparisons for people so that they may pay heed.(25)_*

The Ayat describes the methodology of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la by using an analogy to teach and explain things to Mankind.‼️ Here Allah Azzawajal says *_Good tree is likened to كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً ‘a good word’ – meaning ‘Tawheed’ (La ilaaha illallah)._* _Allah ﷻ compares this Kalimah Tawheed like a good tree. Apart from the Kalimah Tawhid, also included in the category of good words such as shahadah and salawat._ *Faith, which is symbolized by this tree, always grows and blooms, spreading goodness in society as it yields its fruit at all times, by its Lord’s leave* _This is how the tree of faith is: its roots are firmly established in the heart of the believer in terms of knowledge and belief, and its branches include good words, righteous deeds, good attitudes and good manners, which constantly rise to heaven, as the person’s good deeds and good words, which are produced by the tree of faith, ascend from the individual to Allah Azzawajal, which brings benefits to the believer and to others._

*Al-Bukhari* recorded that Abdullah bin Umar said, _“We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, when he asked,_

_“Tell me about a tree that resembles the Muslim, the leaves of which do not fall in summer or winter and gives its fruit at all times by the leave of its Lord.”_

_Ibn Umar said, “I thought of the date palm tree, but felt shy to answer when I saw that Abu Bakr and Umar did not talk. When they did not give an answer, the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said,_

*“It is the date palm tree.”*

*_Act of the Day is:_* to understand that A good tree always bears a good fruit.‼️ *This signals to the good deeds of a good person that a lot will come out of it.* _The practice will be good, beneficial and abundant. This is because good practice begets more good practice. When we start doing good deeds, it will be a catalyst for doing more better deeds._

-To understand that Allah ﷻ uses a basic example of a tree to give us understanding.❗As we all are familiar with trees, it is easy to understand. The parable of the tree is true, because trees take time to grow – and it doesn’t suddenly become tall overnight, right?

The same is true for all of us, we don’t become good suddenly. The process of improving ourselves also takes time. The Prophet ﷺ also took time to give his companions training and guidance and saw their improvement over a period of time.

*But we shouldn’t forget, even when the tree is big, it still needs water and fertiliser.* It’s the same with us. Just as a tree always needs water, so we always need continuous guidance from the Qur’an and Seerah. Even though we have learned the interpretation of the Qur’an, but still we have to keep revising and revisiting the Ayat of the Qur’an and the Seerah of Prophet SAWS all the time.

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la strengthen our Imaan as strong as a deep rooted tree and improvise our character as a tall standing tree giving benefits to the society. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen_*

Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 23

*_Today’s Thought for the day is from Surah Ibrahim Ayah 23_*

*_But those who believe and do righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens through which rivers flow, to abide therein forever by their Lord’s leave. Their greeting therein will be: Peace.(23)_*

The Ayah describes the reward of those true believers who have won the battle against the shaitan and his whisperings and completely trusted and obeyed Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la and followed HIS Deen and commands.‼️ *They will be admitted to gardens(Jannah) through which rivers flow in which they will find all the pleasures that they could desire, such as no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and it has never crossed the mind of man to abide therein forever by their Lord’s leave that is, not by their own strength and power, but by the strength and power of Allah Azzawajal.*

_On the authority of Jabir(RA), he said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: “None of your deeds will bring him into Paradise, nor will it save him from Hell, nor will I, except by the mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la.(Muslim 2817)_

Their the inhabitants of Jannah will hear the greetings of peace from all sides and they will greet one another with salam and kind words.

*_Act of the Day is;_* to imagine the contrasting picture on one side the inhabitants of hell are being punished severely for their misdeeds and recieving curses from all sides and on the other side the inhabitants of Jannah are welcomed with greetings of peace(Salaam) from all sides.‼️ The word *tahiyyah* is literally a *prayer for long life,* but in usage it is a greeting at meeting, it also means *prosperity from all disasters.* _For those of us who still live in this world, Islam teaches us to use the greeting *”Assalamu’alaikum”* which means *May you always be in prosperity”*_ This is the best teaching to educate people to be willing and happy when others get happiness and well-being, just as they themselves feels happy when they get that happiness and well-being, and it keeps away from envy and jealousy.

Expecting other people to get misery or loss and expecting the disappearance of happiness or goodness from someone is a trait that is very hated in Islam.

In this connection, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

_None of you believes until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself. (Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Anas bin Malik.)_

*_May Allah Subhanahu wa taa’la grant us the ability to always do good and allow us to enter the abode of Peace. Aa’meen Ya’Rabbul Aa’lameen_*
